Local paper - £500K houses, half of estate possibly bought by housing association

Look I am not offended. It is just that you made a sweeping statement on all new builds thats all.
I have no problem for that estate as you know as you live near it, but that is not representative of the whole country.
I see the problem, you assumed I meant every local council :rotfl:...the local councils have decreed that each house can only have 1 space. Every new development I have looked at in the area is like that and if the property has a garage that is the space.
but when I said lcoal councils in the plural I was meaning 2 specific local councils (Cheltenham and tewksbury) have decreed that new build in this area can only have 1 space. At least that's the line the developers have fed me and I have no reason to doubt them especially when one showed me the cunning ways they had got round this restriction.
And my garage has 4 disused rabit hutches, straw, hay and the obligitory collection of half empty paint tins.0 -
Was just looking at the site plan as well - how nice, the big south facing gardens... Oh, wait - no, it is the site plant that is turned 90 degrees....
Oh, plot 41 (Howard) is next to affordable housing - is this the one she bought?Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Only if you are living in one of our tied cottages, didn't even know they had broadband, will get that sorted out. I suggest you get back to work immediately.
How very dare you!
I own my big beautiful stone house (tho' we have only just got broadband!!!)
Venison for supper it is!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -
i cant see the social housing landlords will move the scum onto these estates, i think they would be more inclined to have the hard working families the either dont want to own or cant afford to own, it will be good for them to have a nice place in a nice mixed community of similar minded people who are trying their best to get on life, i would jump at the chance of some where like that, based on thoes values,
im prety sure that localy to me some of the nicest areas are mixed, aways have been, and they only allow working families to rent their, i expect the same will happen with most of these houses.
To right, we used to live on entirely private estate and it had no soul and it was all keeping up with the Jones's.
Now I live in a 25% social area and it is so friendly as we don't all have the same boring back grounds.
I now live in a community like the old day (I Presume)
The mixed housing part (providing it is well managed) is something the government/councils did actually get right (or should that read only)0 -
Talking about garges, We were rounds the wife's mate one day and she was clearing out her garage by selling her chest freezer.
A woman rang up and asked how big it was.
She replied she was not sure
The woman then said "could you fit a six foot man in it!" :rotfl:
Scary but funny some people do not realise what they are saying.:D0 -

This would be the ideal scenario, and I'm sure no one could have a problem with it, BUT I think what a lot of us are worried about are the Jeremy-Kyle-low-life-rejects-from-society-families tbh."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -

They don't get to choose though do they? Don't they have to place the most needy in each of the places. Where often the most needy these days are troublesome cases.i cant see the social housing landlords will move the scum onto these estates, i think they would be more inclined to have the hard working families the either dont want to own or cant afford to own, it will be good for them to have a nice place in a nice mixed community of similar minded people who are trying their best to get on life, i would jump at the chance of some where like that, based on thoes values,

This isn't like the good old days where good people went onto a list and waited their turn. All the scum jumps to the front of the queue nowadays.0 -

No completely wrong each housing associations have different policies some are very strict (one complaint and you are out)
You are confusing council houses and housing association. If you had a family both working but could not afford a house you would go to a housing association (well I would).
Councils house the needy first. Housing associations rent houses (mainly),some to people who do not work but they are well managed (you have an opportunity dont mess it up)0 -

Isn't that just as much a load of generalisations as "housing association tenants are scum"?To right, we used to live on entirely private estate and it had no soul and it was all keeping up with the Jones's.
Now I live in a 25% social area and it is so friendly as we don't all have the same boring back grounds.
I have a mortgage on my flat. I don't have any interest in keeping up with the Jones's or any form of conspicuous consumption. I'd like to think that I was just as interesting as someone who didn't have a mortgage.
At what point does having a mortgage stop people being friendly?Happy chappy0 -
Well, if I have £0.5 mil spare by the time I retire, I might retire somewhere nice, like Tuscany... Or New Zealand...
You could buy a nice 5 bedroom house and plenty of land on Lake Erie Canada (near Niagra Falls), with living costs a great deal cheaper than UK, nice place to retire.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0
