Tuesday 30/09/2008 What small dfw things have you done today???

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

Hi to any new posters and a big shout to the usual gang:j

Today I will:
  • Check online banking
  • see if any clicks
  • Lunch at seminar with work
  • storecupboard tea
  • make a loaf in breadmaker
  • Go for swim and jacuzzi to use gym membership
Have a good day everyone, bsolutely chucking it down here this morning:rolleyes:
Off in a minute to a manager's seminar for the day, usually very boring, lots of travelling to get there.
Won't be online till tonight, catch up with everyone then:D

  • Good morning!
Chucking it down here too. Typical when I need to go on a few errands today!

    Here's my efforts for today:

    * Washing day but will NOT tumble. Heating on low so things will be put on radiators and airer.

    * Going to look for a cheap BIG airer as mine is tiny.

    * All my tupperware has mysteriously vanished (where does it go?!) so am off out to buy new pot so I can take cut up fruit to work instead of buying crisps etc there.

    * Me and small boy will share bath water this morning instead of him having a bath and me having a shower

    * Instead of wandering round shops for an hour after little one gone to nursery this afternoon I will go straight to work (bleugh) and claim half hours overtime

    Good luck everyone today!!!!!

    Miss P

  • Morning all - I committed the cardinal sin of caving in and put our oil fired central heating on here (only for half hour), feels so bad, as a consquence am drying all the washing on the radiatiors lol
    Hmm mixed weather here:

    Today:
    Tea from freezer
    Charge phone at work
    HM lunch
    Change addresses with banks
Email Mr Egg again about settlement figure (again)
DS and DD now thoroughly happy with packed lunches saving £1.55 each a day (bribery works like a charm)
Get organised for going to Shetland - for two days ergh (at least I get to go on a plane woo hoo)
Email folks coming to stay and offer to see if they want car (need sort out insurance)
Email DH who owes me for housewarming pressie! (£75)
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
    :money:Sleeves up folks.:money:
  • Not that Shetlands not a nice place its gorgeous - its just who I am going with and it means tea in the pub, which means a couple glasses of wine and a pub tea which will cost alot and take a month or so to claim back (I guess I can bow out?!)

And I get to stand in a soggy field and collect samples from 24 quadrats go me - I just know he will watch me work - hmm and we are the 'weaker sex' lol

Moan over!! Have a great day everyone!

    Morning Sophiesmum and All :hello:
Chucking it down here, and I got up while it was still dark  Is summer over? I left Popeye in Spring weather for this :rotfl:

Well back on board - though MSE never fully left us :D We negotiated a replacement car for OH without putting ourselves further in debt, and have booked our next flights using a cashback credit card, loyalty points AND received nectar points :money: We have also bought some special Christmas presents at a fraction of getting something special here.

Good luck Fayjmck with your Shetlands visit. I always try and get a pub meal out courtesy of Mystery shopping-wouldn't it be BRILLIANT then to claim it on expenses? :rotfl:

    Anyway today I have/will:
    • clicks and checked on-line banking.
    • Mystery shop joining a gym tonight, so for a few weeks I'll be like Sophiesmum and going lots of times to get "my" moneys worth :D
    • defrosting supper (it's label-less lucky dip  ) and home-made mystery soup for lunch, I suppose homemade labels can be less money saving when they collect at the bottom of the freezer.:p
    • lots of apples to deal with too. So I'll delay going shopping on the grounds that I need more space in the freezer.
    • been screened out for lots of surveys.
    • sent 2 cheques, one for 42p and one for 4p to clear 2 credit card balances. (I thought I'd cleared them, but they sneakily added interest, so rather than do this on line I'm going to make them process cheques which costs them around 20p to do, as revenge ;) )
    • line drying (indoor airer) the washing I did last night at 30.
have a good one everybody. :A
  • Morning. Didn't want to get out of bed today, it's sooo chilly.

Yesterday was another NSD so I had two more NSDs than I thought I would this month - twelve in total. I'm no doubt going to the pub pre-match tonight so I probably won't be able to add to that (nobody buys a lady a drink these days!)

    Anyway, today I have:

    * Brought dinner into work - ham, cheese and pickle butties :)
    * Checked online banking - my change has cleared into my account which is all good. I've also upped my regular saver by £40 a month to account for £10 a week takeaways which I won't be partaking in.
    * Checked surveys. Done one already today.
    * Brought camera battery into work to charge. Will fully charge laptop here as well.
    * Brought pay slips in to query my wages.
    * Brought course offer letter in so work can be invoiced.
    * All the usual car sharing, water from the water cooler and tea paid for by work too.

    Today I will:

    * Not have a takeaway or pies and naughty burgers at the match. I've got some leftover bolognaise in the fridge ready to chuck in a pan when I get home from work.
    * Make my menu choice for the work Christmas party!
    * Book some holidays :)
    * Keep working and keep smiling.

Hope everyone has a good one :)
  • Morning All - chucking it down here as well and so dark - but I stuck to my guns and got up early and did half an hour on the Wii Fit.

    bought in lunch
will have to buy diesel on the way home tonight so no nsd for me but won't be buying anything else
will attempt to do some more on the Wii Fit tonight
A day of meetings at work today
Debt free and Keeping on Track
  • I've done my free clicks, made my Cheese and Marmite sandwiches (it's an added benefit that Marmite is both cheap and blessed with an exquisite, full-bodied, heavenly taste; something that I imgaine God would have on his morning crumpet) with the bread I made, the Oyster card reader didn't work on the bus this morning so I saved 90p there as well.

It is my anniversary today though, so we're going to a nice restaurant, which will wipe this lot out fairly quickly though. But it's only once a year.
  • Morning all - grim here in Leeds too - Was hoping for a NSD today however just got emailed and we have an extra sports opraticse tonight so will at least be paying room hire for that. Anyway today I will / have1. Took cereal for work for brekkie and afternoon snack before going to practise tonight (hopefully stop me wanting a Subway on the train home at 9pm)2. Home made lunch taken to work3. Massive veggie curry made last night for tea4. emailed mate about weekend meal and seeing if I can get a voucher for anywhere that does pizza/pasta in Leeds (any ideas?) 5. Will get one report done at work6. Hopefully some comps and surveys when I get home. Have a good MSE day xx
