  • Asda sell a 2 litre bottle of SmartPrice orange squash for 35p, but a 1 litre bottle is only 16p. So buy 2 of those and save 3p (I know its not much but it all adds up)

Sainsburys in central Edinburgh (St. Andrew Square) have packs of baby tomatoes clearly marked as 'buy one get one free' - however when you get to the checkout they charge full price for both packs!  >:(

I shop there! And I have had the same problems (but with strawberries - not tomatoes). The thing that really annoys me though is that a lot of the offers are only ever on in the big or normal supermarket stores. The central/metro/city stores are almost always exempt from the best offers. :( And without a car it's not easy to get to the bigger shops which are usually on the edge of town. I am feeling a little hard done by! ;)

    Noticed some anomolies is Sainbury.

Normal price of fresh chicken fillets is approx £7.00 per kilo.

Every now and again Sainsbury have a " Buy 2 save £5.00" offer but if you look at the price its now gone up to approx £11.00 per kilo.

I've noticed some other stores boost the price per unit volume when doing a buy 1 get one free offer

    Thought this tip might help!

If am unsure if the supermarket is trying to dupe me with a dodgy Multi-Buy offer such as "2 for the price of 3", I always use the calculator on my mobile to check the maths before making the multi-buy purchase! :D

Watch out for Asda, who seem to be losing the labels for their standard multibuy offers:

Eg Yesterday at Asda Pilsworth (Bury), no labels for multibuys on own brand pasta (34p each or 3 packs for 99p) or Knorr packet soup (51p each or 2 for £1) so until they went through at the checkout you had no idea they were on offer at all.

I realise this isn't quite the same as a diseconomy of scale, but it's cheeky, even if it is accidental. :-/

And by the way, it is a wonderful word, but what does 'prestidigitation' mean?!
What good's the sky when you have no days to watch it by?

i NOTICED THIS YESTERDAY AT TESCO. BUYING TWO 3 PACKS OF ORANGE JUICE WAS CHEAPER THAN BUYING A SIX PACK THAT YOU WOULD ASSUME IS CHEAPER. ALSO BUY THEIR OWN BRAND CANS OF RED BULL AT 48P INSTEAD OF THE MULTIPACK (6) FOR 2.99

EVERYONE SHOULD BE WARNED AND PLACES LIKE TESCO SHOULD BE NAMED AND SHAMED!

the one that always bugs me is Tesco sell 200g jars of Douwe Egberts coffee at 5p per 100g more than the 100g jars. Thats the coffee in the big thick glass jars so you'd think only producing one jar would make bulk buying cheaper?

In Tesco, two 500g bags of porridge oats are 80p (40p each) while one 1kg bag is 88p.
I'm so sexy it's a wonder my underpants don't explode.

A 24 box of McVities Jaffa Cakes were cheaper per cake compared to the box of 36 at Tesco's.

I was going to buy the 36 thinking they were cheaper but as it turns out they were not. However it did save those extra calories! ::)

yes i too have spotted the orange juice carton prices in tesco - it does seem crazy. As long as we remain savvy shoppers, then we'll all be ok!
