Can I Override Tiscali Calls?

Tiscali's new offer is free line rental and broadband for £9.99, they say you can stop paying BT line rental and save £126 per year.

However will I still be able to override calls back to BT for cheap 0844 international calls using the 1280 prefix?

I think if your exchange has been unbundled (Tiscali have their own equipment in it) then the answer I think is No. Also if that is the case when you want to go back to BT it may cost you the equivalent new line installation !

The 9.99 is only for first 3 months, £14.99 thereafter. There is also a £30 setup fee and contract is for 12 months. The offer shows that your exchange must be unbundled, if not it will cost you more !

Also remember that their customer service is cxxp and that Tiscali are up for sale.
  • How do I find out?

I've tried calling them ,but they had no clue what I was on about!

Somebody must use Tiscali out there?

Think about it, if you are paying Tiscali for everything then you have no connection with BT at all, so even if it were technically possible to use 1280 (which it isn't) then there would be no means for Bt to bill you for it.
No once you pay Tiscali in preference to BT (ie your line is unbundled) you are lumbered with their T&C's and call charges.
Also if they haven't a clue when they are trying to sell you something, think what's going to happen when things go wrong.
And the "free line rental" is misleading because you are paying for it in the £14.99 (after 3 months). Having said that the package seems to be cheap.

If you move your line rental away from BT,you want be able to use the back via BT Override Facilty 1280, because you want have an account with BT, how would they charge you for any calls if your no longer a customer?

You can however make 0844 calls via Tiscali Talk.Their charging is not always identical to BT.

Their 9.99p package only includes free weekend calls so you would also have to pay their more expensive rates to make peak and evening calls.

Tiscali can and do block access to the likes of www.18185.co.uk. Only BT have to allow access to indirect codes.
  • Thanks for the Tiscali prices, I've noticed the 0844 prices are just a couple of pence more than BT, but there is a extra 7p connection charge.

 BT charge a connection charge of 7p also.

The increased call prices on Tiscali soon build up.;)
