I hate glossing to , it is the worst job in the world and the paint brushes are so hard to clean, that I usually end up binning them

I do hate it - but love the way it suddenly makes a room look decorated. And I've found the brushes are much easier to clean if you do them straight away :o.

Update #5

- glossing finished & room looks fab - apart from when I dropped some on the carpet :rotfl:

- about to decide whether to put those curtains back up or swap with spare room. They are heavier and fuller than spare rooms and DD likes a darkened room when she stays. Would probably need to lower curtain rail in spare room, which would mean having to fill holes and touch up paint - but it would also mean I could get the drill out :rotfl:

- also touched up hall paint from when door was fitted.

- need to have something else to eat then decide how much more I can do & may get Xmas tree out:xmastree:

Yes miss :)

Final update:

- curtains were long enough - just - without lowering curtain rail, although I did have to take down one bracket & redo with better rawl plug. The blue curtains don't really stand out against blue walls. Tough - they will be warmer (it's the coldest room in the house) and darker :D

- curtains threaded onto pole ready for study tomorrow (or more likely, Wednesday) when I put brackets back up :D

- brushes washed, painting clothes in washing machine :D

- Christmas tree up :xmastree:, and Xmas stockings (had to check the batteries on DS & DD's, reindeers :rudolf:which sing 'Merry Christmas, You Make Me Want to Shout' v loud and wiggle their ears) (actually checked they were working quite a few times :snow_laug) (will just check once more to make sure :snow_grin, yup, still working) :D
- all hoovered and tidied up, including 3 bags of books for charity shop in car) :D

So, all that's left to do is:
- rub down & fill again 1 bit of wall, then paint it
- hang curtains
- build new desk
- fill bookcase
- hang pictures/photos (which ones do I want? shall I buy a big frame & do a collage instead? DD would like to help at Xmas)
- decide how to lay room out, need to factor in where printer will be, don't think behind on bookcase will work so may need to buy a floating shelf
- empty spare room back into study :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:. What's the phrase - quart into a pint pot, well, it all came out of there so must fit back in :rotfl:
- em, find somewhere to put all the stuff that doesn't fit in :o

Ok, off for a bath & can't even have a well deserved glass of wine as can't drink on antibiotics . Then will watch second half of Strictly final, whilst I count the pennies in Peefer the pig 8.gif

Edit: Peefer coughed up £40 (with lots of coppers left), so as soon as I get a chance to pay it in that will be off to BTL mortgage :)

Thanks all. Have been a bit rubbish as posting good wishes to folks so let me get in early:HSNewYear.gif
Had a lovely Christmas :). DD gone home (with Billian, her new hamster who looks like a little moleHSwheel.gif) & OH cleared off as well. DS gone shopping (returning presents from his dad, he liked mine :)), so place to myself at last :j.

Am celebrating by painting my bedroom . Hmmmm, think the colour is too dark but it was free (well, had 2 tins in garage, think it was in kitchen before but looked brighter there), so it is staying. Made a good job of rubbing down for a change, and 2 holes where I had a tie back attached you can't see at all :D. Em..... cos when I removed rawl plug half the wall came off as well :o. There had better be enough paint as they don't sell it any more . Think it's ok, doing second coat in a minute.

Just had early lunch of home made leek & pot soup. Lovely, but I was a bit heavy handed on the pepper, still, I'm getting a cold so it has probably helped my sinuses :D.

Plans for rest of week are:
- finish bedroom
- iron curtains before rehanging (they've been up 5 years and still have the original creases, I need to accept they are unlikely to drop out now :rotfl:)
- strip DD's bed & wash bedding
- fire up work lappy & do expenses (may do another task to get it out of way, will see)
- menu plan, shop & cook. I ordered from Approved Foods for the 1st time, got a bit carried away, lets just say cous cous, savoury rice and bulgar wheat will be featuring heavily :o.
- sort out suitcase for holiday (20 days from now will be on the plane :T)
- watch DIY SOS tomorrow night - for those of you who don't know, it features a fellow MSE'er :)
- write up challenges, update signature etc. Decided to keep this diary as can't think of anything witty enough for a new name :o.
- step on the scales. Have fallen off the wagon and been trampled by those following belly.gif

Em, that'll do for now I think. Will probably eat all the unhealthy food as well, just to get it out of the way you understand :A

Hope all are well.

HERE is the story LP. But to cut a very long story short:
Lisa posted asking for help. Turned out she was actually a he, Mike (nothing dodgy, just used someone else's login originally but it has cause some fun :rotfl:). He'd bought a little cottage on his divorce. Had the money to get it structurally amended & renovated. Used a recommended builder. Work started - looked v good. Paid him upfront. Builder did a runner. No money left, no back wall to cottage, for several years . CCJ against builder meant Jack !!!!. Mike, not surprisingly, v depressed, couldn't work, his boys couldn't stay as house inhabitable (though Mike lived there :() & one son ended up in hospital with bad asthma attack. However, Neville the mouse did find it habitable :o.
Mike appealed on MSE for help (though found that v v difficult). Was persuaded to contact TV shows. Was featured on The One Show, but no practical help. Email campaign to DIY SOS by MSEers led to him being chosen for The Big Build (last one of series). House basically falling down. Rebuilt with help of their team, local tradesmen & MSEers (Mike' Mob).
No-one allowed to say anything till TV show goes out. However, there are rumours of tartan paint, gilded skips and Conservative MP's buried in the garden.

THIS is Mike's post describing his feelings on being shown round. WARNING - you will blub like a baby if you're anything like me, and if you manage to hold off till you get to the end, the last line is a killer 3.gif

It's not all been plain sailing for Mike since - but what a difference it's made to his life :)

I poorly sick :(

Feel hot & a bit achy & throat is sore. Worst of all it has gone into my brain which has got so confused I actually did some ironing earlier . In fact, the ironing basket is empty _pale_. As long as it's just a cold and not this lergy I'll be ok.

Bedroom nearly done - 4 doors to go, then hang the (now ironed :o) curtains. Looks v nice. Just spoken to OH on the phone - he asked if the room had needed painting :wall:. He said he has lower standards than me, not just in painting :rotfl:.

So, that's study and bedroom done for £0 :). I have enough bathroom paint from last time to brighten it up so that will be next. However, I stuck a bit of wood on the wall to screw towel rail to & have hated it since I did it. Won't get it off without a mess, also need to remove old bell thingy from hall wall & no idea what is lurking under that, :cool:so have decided to splash out on a cheap B&D sander, only £22 which is what a tin of paint for bedroom would have been. Also will get 2 hooks for towels to replace rail. A new toy to play with :D.

Have been decluttering. In addition to 3 pots of paint I have eaten lots of chocs so tin can be thrown out. How good am I :A.

Off for Beechams*, washed down with a wee dram ;)

1 of 2 M&S parcels has arrived. All going back, bar 1 hooded top (boy, do I look slim in it :T) & 1 cardi - though ordered it in a few colours so will see when other arrive which one to keep. Hopefully it will come tomorrow, then can be posted back & credited before next statement. The undies I ordered from Brastop came within 24 hrs prior to Xmas, 3 bras & 6 pairs matching pants kept, rest went abck today. Lovely to have new undies - which fit :D.
