Companies offering line reconnection other than BT?

Hello!

I have read on this forum that companies other than BT can arrange to have your phone line reconnected but that they choose no to.
Does anyone know of ANY other phone/broadband companies that do provide this service?

My friend wants to get online in her new house and BT are telling her she must pay £125 to activate the line AND sign up to a 12 month contract with them. I thought it would be either one or the other, but they are telling her she must do both! Which seems very unfair!

BT broadband and line rental are so expensive (has anyone noticed they advertise thier prices excluding VAT to appear cheaper - unlike most other providers!) I have had really bad treatment from them in the past and hope I will never have to deal with them again!

My friend wants to avoid signing up to a BT service if at all possible?
Can you help?

Cheers.

Plusnet, Madasafish, Post Office, Phone Co-op..........BT only insist on 12 month contracts now because of providers like TalkTalk who won't arrange lines themselves but will happily take over an active line.

There's nothing stopping you having the BT line rental, but putting calls elsewhere or having broadband elsewhere.

You don't have to go with BT for broadband on a new BT line install. You don't have to put calls through BT on a new line install (unless on the 18 month deals where some calls must go through BT or for free 1571 and Caller Display where 2 calls per month must go through BT).
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • You have both been very helpful.
    Thank you very much!!
