should i buy this Honda CRV now or wait???

Hi all,

I'm looking for a brand new Honda CRV 2.2 EX in nighthawk black, and the best price i can get at the moment is £23,399 OTR (RRP £25,555).

Reading about car sales, it seems that September is going to be another hard month. I need the car in December or January, so i have no time pressure really. Would people on here suggest taking the above price right now (secured for Dec/jan delivery) or should i wait until later in the year in the hope that prices will come down even further?

thanks for your opinions!

  • Buy a year old secondhand one save yourself 5-6k.
  • The longer you wait, the lower the price would go, i would assume

it has to be a brand new one (purchasing it through a car allowance scheme from work with this stipulation), otherwise i would buy one that is a year old for sure!

i would think the price would go down too, especially in the near recession we are in at the moment, but just wanted other people's opinions too!

You bagged yourself more than a 9% discount which is pretty good going. Right this moment the car dealer is under end of quarter pressure for orders by 30th September (i.e. tommorrow) / end of year registrations for December. He will be under end of year pressure for end of December.
My guess, having heard about discount structures with another car dealer recently, is you *might* possibly scrape another 1 or 2 % (£250-£500) if you lucky and chase around for the deal long enough done in December.
Another consideration though is that we are at the begging of the '58 registration right now which is a tiny bit better for you come resale time.

If it was me I would go with the deal you have on the table and take it right now because I doubt it will get much better by December. January tends to be a busier time for car sales and new orders so worth stearing clear of that.

The phrase I've heard from a car saleman recently is "The car market is not changing right now, it's already changed, a marked drop in used car prices has happened with a trend to downsizing".

I bought a CRV a year ago and the dealer I purchased it from had some kind of deal with Honda for selling a certain number of cars over a period of time. The car was technically new with only 6 miles on clock but because it was pre-registered 3 weeks beforeI came along I got it for £17000 (meaning I was the 2nd owner). One month before I visited another dealer and the same car was going to cost me £24000! £7000 saving  :j

These 'pre reg' deals are just pot luck aren't they? i would jump at the chance of getting a pre reg from a dealer, but none seem to have any!

Pre-reg is great if you can find one to the right spec.
Finding a dealer who needs to land one more sale in December to get the 2008 sales volume bonus is also pot luck, great if you can find it and might bag you a coupel of percent more discount as I was alluding to above.
Would pre-reg. qualify as a new car for you company car cash allowance rules though?
    Probably not.

I think finding the pre reg cars is very difficult but it just goes to show how much you lose as soon as you put only 6 miles on it! To my mind they are so overpriced to begin with but this does not help you find one I know

I was speaking to someone the other day who told me Honda have a massive oversupply of cars at present, they are looking to cut production by 15-20k vehicles over the next year, thats just the UK factory. So haggle really hard, play a few dealers of against each other.

i can get away with a pre reg at work- i've just asked! they just want to see that it is a '58' plate with less than 100 miles on the clock, so that is new or pre reg!
i'm just wondering just how hard to haggle, as i don't want to get 90% of the way and then just bomb out!
