I've currently got my 20 quid (from Game) soft modded Xbox hooked up to my internet connection via a cable and running XBMC as the dashboard.
This works very well but the cable lying across the room isn't the best solution - I'm looking to make a wireless bridge connection to the router but would like to find a solution to allow me to steam video and audio content.
Please don't assume I know what I'm talking about here as I know very little about networking in general
Being a cheapskate (why else would I be here..?.) I'd like to know what options are available for a decent price

wireless game adaptor... about £40 iirc, and will change an ethernet port into wifi, and can jump onto an existing network0

i've been running xbmc over a wifi connection for a few years now. works really well, although i recently upgraded to HD (now using a mac mini with plex/osxbmc) and i have real problems streaming 720p tv shows over the 802.11g wifi network, so ill be moving (hopefully) to 200mbps powerline network kit soon.
find yourself a cheap wifi base station unit that will run in "bridge" mode. i got two 3com wifi units aaaages ago. one runs in normal wifi mode, the second in bridge mode. the bridge downstairs then plugs into a 4 port switch (a tenner from scan) which feeds my kit downstairs (tivo, xbox, mac mini and a spare with an ethernet cable for any laptops/devices that dont already have wifi)
the wireless game adapter is the same device, just with a fancy name (and a few less features)

I've been reading about this DD-WRT stuff and hacked routers - that might be the way to go?
Some suggest that HD content is playable as well.....0 -
It can play HRHD, but not HD, or if it can not at a watchable framerate.0

I have to admit I'm not up to speed on any of that either - doing well here
I'm happy enough watching SD content for the moment as I don't have any HD equipment to playback - of course this will change in the future.
For the moment I've got the Xbox hooked up to a 20" TV but at some point next year anticipate getting in on either an LCD or Plasma TV so it might be wise to just stick with either a cable or one of those powerline devices then?
This is the router I was thinking about buying:

I've actually got a 3com router at home (I'm out of the country right now) which has 4-ports built in - so does that mean if it supports "bridge" mode it could possibly be used for my purposes "as is"?0 -

Easy to set up, read the reviews on ebuyer before you start, everything you need to know is there. I was up and running in 10mins, have used it to stream dvd's that are ripped to my drive with no lag. For 18 quid it's a bargain.0

Well I just ordered the one from the USA - worth a try for 13 quid
