Wondering if any of you lovely people could help me out with this please.
My son has an Xbox 360 connected to Xbox Live he's tried to sign in today and we get MTU test failed.
We have no idea why, we've not changed any settings, our internet is working fine, we use a Belkin router for the net, his Xbox is connected wirelessly and it's been working no problems for the past 9 months.
I've had a look on various sites and they all recommend not to change MTU settings (don't know how to anyway, but looks like I have to go into the registry) as it can really mess things up.
My MTU settings are automatically set at 1500 I believe, more than enough for what's need for Xbox Live.
I hope I've told you enough for somebody to come to our aid. I was wondering if his wireless thingy had failed but it's all green lights on that.
We'd both be very grateful for any light that can be shed on this, it's a bit beyone me I'm afraid.
Many thanks

I take it you tried to connect this morning, dont bother, microsoft are doing maintenance to xbox LIVE, you would be better off trying maybe tomorrow, dont change any settings as the reason why the mtu failed was because LIVE is offline,0 -
yes xbox live is down for 24 hours due to maintanence. they are fixing the service, and getting it ready for the fall dashboard update..0

Thank you both so much - I've just told my son and he said "Oh yea there was a message on XBox Live!" Dopey devil.
At least you have both put my mind at rest and there's nothing to worry about.

thanks, I was wondering what was going on, dont microsoft send out advance notice of these maintenance? or do they always do this just shutdown service without warning without telling anyone.0
-
they announced it sometime last week, they did message everyone on xbox live, but if you didnt receive it it might be that you have privacy settings on, but then on the other hand they did have a big advertisement on xbox live dashboard for a week informing you of the day that they was going off and why they was going off.0

there as a message on the main page of the dashboard plus if you frequent the xbox forums theres threads on there about it, its all to do with the new dashboard thats coming0 -

They sent out a global message over live last week and it's been on the dashboard for a while too.
