Not the same mirror, but if you got that one anywhere near the starting price you've had a great bargain!

I too like the tea light holder, very nice.

PS This is the same as ours (but we didn't pay that much!)

That mirror is lovely too! I think we paid just over £100 for our mirror, still not cheap but a lot cheaper than it should have been!

jamtart6 you can get smaller ones so it might be worth having a look! The towel holder looks really nice, especially with brightly coloured towels on it! You'll not want to use them once they are neatly rolled up hahahah

Put a couple more piccy on my blog to celebrate us having lighting! Got a day off tomorrow to insulate the ceiling and make sure everything is ready for the plasterers! Just got the kitchen and hall to plaster then we are done yey!:D

I finally did the final coat of paint in our small bedroom last night (started about 9:30pm!) as we are away next week and the in laws are coming over to get some deliveries and I didn't want them doing it. Not seem it in daylight but I'm sure its looking pretty good.

Cant wait for the skirting boards to arrive so we can block some of the drafts..... :D

Hi, I've really been enjoying reading this thread, wish I'd found it back in 2006 when we started our massive renovation. But still got a ways to go so that's OK. Has anyone found really good electric radiators? We are 'going electric' in our loft conversion ... I found these

Any thoughts? It's a bit of a long story as to why we didn't extend the central heating up there -- partially a boiler issue, mostly a problem in siting the pipes but also awareness of my laziness in walking up the stairs to turn off radiators when I am home during the day! Too late now as the floor to the loft conversion is down ... amazing the difference a floor makes although I am really looking forward to a staircase!

Hi Scotcitz. Well, they look very nice and smart.

Is the room used as a bedroom or something else? Is it used regularly or only need heating occasionally?

What you need is some clever person to come along and work out a comparison cost, say how much per hour for Xkw of heat from one of those rads compared to how much it would cost for your central heating rad to provide the same amount of heat. Obviously, from that description I'm not that person :rotfl: You need to decide if the cost per hour to heat to the temp you want is acceptable to you.

Hi TomsMom, glad you think they look nice, I was going to go for something really groovy (wall panel) for a regular one. But that was before ... now the floor is laid etc so it's definitely a commitment to electric at this point. This is a bedroom mostly, it's one big room that stretches over the top of a Victorian red sandstone midterrace, the room is about 11' wide by 22' long, but it will have doors to divide it in the middle ... so I'm thinking 2 radiators, one on each end sort of. My daughter has bagged this fabulous ensuite room ... but she is a total Scottish polar bear and doesn't need much heat. There will be a play/games area as well. We have noticed already in wandering around up there that heats does indeed rise (as I was taught as a child) so hopefully won't run these more than 2-3 hours/day at most in colder times. But I just wonder if this electrorad stuff is worth the extra money ... so hard to tell these days. It certainly SEEMS to make sense (and I have heard my friends complain about electric storage heaters no end, well I do live in Scotland after all where it can stay cold for a long time).

Back to surfing the web for more electric radiators ... but if anyone sees a site with great wooden framed mirrors (Charles Rennie Macintosh or Frank Lloyd Wright style) let me know!

Evening all, hope you've had a good weekend. Everyone did lots of DIY, I hope...?!
We've had the rest of our carpet fitted - hooray! :) i'm currently sitting on the lovely new lounge carpet - photos here. (Incidently - TomsMom, have you been leaving drunken comments on my blog?!)
We also bought some new lightshades (for the lounge, our bedroom, and spare room), a new bed for the spare room, and a new mattress for us. And we spent a few hours clearing the garden, to stop the grass dying from being covered with conifer cuttings for the past few months, kicked down some old fence panels, filled a couple of rubble sacks etc. By which time we were both in danger of frostbite, so went indoors...!
Right ho, I'm going to go to bed (looking forward to new mattress! :D )

Carpets look lovely Beth. The hall carpet is a similar colour to the one we have in our present house and for a heavy traffic area is still looking good after about 3 years so a good choice for you :T

Eh??? What??? Where??? Nooooooooooooo, I'm innocent! And I don't drink :p . My last comment was 19 Jan where you said you'd wallpapered the middle bedroom but hadn't got around to putting the photos up. So - who said what, when???

OH has spent some time this weekend paint stripping, when he'd found the Nitromors that he carefully put away in a safe place then promptly forgot where and when he went to look didn't think to move things to look behind  . The new staircase to the loft was put in the other day and it's all nice new pine, and we're having new spindles on the other stairs to replace non-regulation horizontal ones with big gaps a la 70s style. So OH started stripping the paint off the other newel posts and other bits but wore out his wire brush and needs to get some new ones. What he's done so far has come up lovely so when it's all finished the whole lot will be waxed along with the new doors when we get them and skirtings/architraves. We prefer seeing natural wood to paint (and it doesn't chip and need re-doing so saving a lot of work in future ;) )

A few hours? I only lasted a few minutes outside today so I applaud you for staying out so long.
  • I was busy with the polyfilla this weekend, filling in lots of holes we made and fiding holes to fill before the cavity gets filled !!

Progress has slowed right down now, new job and lack of funds (more a reigning in on the spending) and time seem to have slowed us down. Thinking of starting some of the free jobs like wall paper stripping and gardening !!!

    :j :j :j I have new windows! :j :j :j

They are white with silver lead diamonds :D and I loves them!

Bit gutted as the real door panel isnt coming until Thuesday which we didn't know :( doesn't matter but was excited for it!

Chopped down another tree today, took the border off the hall stairs and landing so only one room to strip now, and we're just focusing on upstairs at the moment. chipped some more grout off the bathroom, fixed the gate and sanded the windowsills :T

Next jobs: Make electric sockets double, get a new fuse board (any ideas on cost?), plasterboard in bathroom, heating fitter, plastered! *phew*

Also went to b&q and decided on the floor for the bathroom which is this laminate here - Anyone had any good/bad experience with laminates? Any handy hints??

:ABeing Thrifty Gifty again this year:A

I saw that laminate in B & Q last week, very nice! All I would say, as it is for the bathroom, is make sure you fit it exactly according to instructions so as not to void your guarantee. Everyone seems to say not to have laminate in kitchens and bathrooms, yet there are some makes that say they're suitable for these areas (or "splash" areas). I've seen that to clean just spray one of those flat microfibre mop heads with water (the mop not the floor) and that will do the job without too much water coming into contact with the laminate.
