Latecome and Andrew - I have also just discovered how long doors can take to hang - even for professionals! Took my guys ages.

And Maggie, place looks like it is moving along really well. Hope it keeps going smoothly. :)

I, I think... and am hesitant to say it... I think I am juuuust about finished. There are a few jobs left, but really just a bit of painting. Even put the bed back together last night, so we are able to sleep in our own comfortable bed for the first time in 6 months!

Last pieces of glass for my extension FINALLY showed up today, and has been installed. So we are fully airtight and warm for the first sub zero night of the year.

So, now it is just down to me to re-assemble some IKEA furniture, while I wait to get the energy together to arrange for someone to start the whole fitted wardrobe thing. I think I'll give it a few months to enjoy the new house. Then will also start the process of getting much needed blinds, and perhaps even a fire, but taking a break for a while first.

In reality we probably still have a few more days of work, but I am, for the first time, sitting in my living room, enjoying my new flat, with a minimum of dust. Happy days!!

@kmmr - looks great. Bet your glad to get wind and water tight just in time for winter :)

We now have drains ready to be tested but apparently the building control officer is on holiday until next week and guy doing the drains is on holiday as of tuesday so will need to wait until he gets back. Not happy about that but doesn't appear to be anything we can do about it. If he could get it tested before he went away we could get the builders in to finish off their stuff. OH is trying to get him to commit to a date so we know when its going to be done but he needs to check his diary before he can commit etc....

Its so frustrating to be so close and yet seemingly unable to get to the end.

    Wow, that's looking great!

Sounds like you have had some difficult times too. (just read about your floor problems with the wood delivery)

Can't wait to see that lovely red glass installed in your kitchen. :j Do let us know when it happens.

    Ditto.

I'm quite [STRIKE]boring[/STRIKE] traditional :D in my tastes and always end up going for a tradtional type of look....then I see all your projects and think damn, I wish I'd done that. :rotfl:

I go into places and see glossy kitchens or shiny black tiles or whatever...... and think they look really nice...then come out with an oak kitchen and safe beige for the floor. :o

Wonder where you can get some 'risk taking' pills'.

Back to the coving for me today. I gave up yesterday after have a Mary fit as we used to say in Edinburgh. (Don't even know where that saying came from tbh :D). I had a strop of mammoth proportions but normal service is resumed today. :D

    Sounds familiar :D

Risk taking pills - not sure about that but you could always make all your design decisions after a few drinks....

Nothing much going to happen with us for a few days, we've got visitors this weekend and little LC didn't have a good reaction to his first lot of immunisation jags so will probably try and get some sleep tonight. Mind you there is a lot of tidying up to be done before our friends arrive.

Not sure about "Mary fit" but definitely a "hairy fit" not sure if its from my upbringing in fife or from weegie land :D

Lol, lc...my Mum was quite posh...maybe it was 'hairy fit' and she thought that was too uncouth so changed it to something similar sounding. :rotfl:

    *goes off to google*

I remember the immunisation stage...... I feel for you. :D

Thanks everyone!! It's been a long road for sure. Am pretty pleased about it all now. Still painters in today, but they have promised to have everything gone by the weekend, all the paint, tools, dust sheets etc. Pretty exciting.

It's funny about the flooring, it seems like SUCH a big drama when it happened, but now that we have the floors down and it's all sorted, I have really just forgotten about it. There will be a lot of good years here, so will happily forget a few dramas. And the floor that is down now looks really perfect, and the underfloor heating under it is working a treat. It makes a somewhat plain room feel really cosy.

In fact everything is a big drama at the time, but the great thing is once it's done it's done. If you look right back you will see the major issues with the water board as well as with the gas (there may have been tears over that!!) but they are all behind us now.

And the lovely glass splashbacks also showed up today. Look better than I even thought! Photos are on the blog. Quite a lot of them, as I love it! And the kitchen designer also wanted some pics (at least that is my excuse for taking so many!)

I am a bit surprised that you all say it's risk taking. I struggle to make decisions with any kind of design, which is why everything is shiny and plain. I always wish I had the courage to put in a few more design elements and really take risks. But I guess it depends what you are used to. I grew up in Australia, and the plain clean lines things is really standard there.

The Red splash back, and I suppose the feature wall in the bedroom are my big statements. I obviously have a bit of a thing for reds.
