Ok....forgive me as I already suspect this is a stupid question.......If there are open sides and an open front......wont the wood still get wet and not burn?
Looks like a solid store though. :T From a girly pov, a few pot plants on top would finish it off nicely.:rotfl:

God, you make me laugh :rotfl: . It would be a nice touch though.
Suiside Great achievement, well done. Love the "rustic" look.
We've got three lovely chaps in digging up our garden. The battenburg cake path is going at last :j . It's tipping down with rain though but they're carrying on, the skip's only here for the day. They'll re-lay with some Indian stone paving and re-shape the borders a bit and put a new dwarf wall up. I'll blog some photos when there's something worth putting on.0 -

:j Yes, it's very solid as bolted to the wall and lots of support. No, they need to be opena nd off the floor to ensure wind gets through to dry them our and so they don't get mouldy. They may get a littl edamp from the sides if slanting rain but that won't make any difference, the inside will be seasoned and readyAhhh, will mention pots to Lowri, she may like that idea!

Thanks TM, Glad you like it! Rustic indeed and very MSE! Look forward to seeing the pics of the new indian stone, big fan of that :T0 -
Lowris best friend was up for weekend so myself and her fiancee thought we could take it on. We loaded up his Merc Vito with pallets, bought some serious screws/plugs for brickwork and some batton and the total cost for this was about £7. Not bad considering ebay has ones a quarter the size for £100. Not going to paint it etc as I like the mismatch and rusticness. Took approx 4hrs and it rained nearly every second of it. Hope you like
Hope the fiancee realised what accepting the invitation was going to involve.:rotfl:0 -
Cheers CS! They weren't going to be here for the whole weekend, just a night I think so I had planned to do it on the Sat anyway. Him being there was a bonus as he loves projects liket his!0

Oh how I have missed you!!! Well done everyone houses are looking amazing!!!
We are slowly getting there with curtains and lampshades as and when money will allow us. Finished the fence, still have the garden to do, did a small bit of decking yesterday, need to fit the downstairs loo and grout the kitchen then that is basically the DIY done*sob* I really miss it! I was buzzing yesterday when we did the decking step and remembered how good it was to do something yourself!
My dream is to save hard and buy another house to do up! Currently struggling to pay for one so we'll leave house number 2 as a dream at the moment!!

That's well cool deaddub!
I like the authentic look of it also, deffo keep it like that. It may be worthwhile coating it in some wood treatment stuff. I coated a lot of the rafters in my attic the other week with cuprinol. A 5l tub cost around £30odd? A bit pricier than I imagined and it stunk, but easy enough to apply. Not sure how great the stuff is to be honest, I just did it because my unlce advised me to - hehe.
It's doing little projects like that, that helps build up confidence in trying things out. I look at a section that I boxed in for my mum under the boiler for the pipework, and whilst it's neat, it's not the most solid work. Now, having had a bit more experience I know how to fix the job - but it will have to wait as I have my house to complete! :rotfl:"The future needs a big kiss"0 -
Cheers for advice TA. I will look into some sort of preservative as long as it's clear coated rather than a stain! Hopefully you can get that?!
Completely agree about tackling smaller jobs and moving onto bigger! It's great0 -

Yeah - I think the stuff I got was clear. It was just like a water wash when applying it. I've just had a look at the cuprinol site but can't see the tub I bought. I know it's available from Travis Perkins if you have one of them local to you? It was £37.75 inc vat if it helps at all."The future needs a big kiss"0 -
Don't pay for cuprinol..daylight robbery IMHO. Goto wickes and get a tub of "wickes traditional shed and fence preserver" which is suitable for rough sawn or planed timber. It's £17.49 for 5L (though of course i got a better deal and used a 15% off voucher code). Good stuff and a bit like creosote...High VOCs too! That's what we used on the shed and i used it on my deck tiles and timbers around the shed base too. Comes in a few different colours but not clear..though there is another clear product they do i believe.
Ideally i'd get hold of some roofing felt and nail it onto your logstore with clout nails. Or look around and see if you can scrounge some slates/roof tiles...maybe freecycle?0
