Stairs look fantastic. I was reading the blog thinking you'd made them yourself and was in awe - only mildly disappointed to find out someone else did it but they still look great.
Thanks! I didn't make them myself, but I was very much included if you know what I mean? I did a lot of measuring, and cutting, sanding, screwing and carrying - just under guidance if that makes sense. Though I couldn't say that "I" made them and take the credit.
It's saved me quite a lot of money doing it this way. I didn't get any custom quotes for my exact stairs, but I have seen online a ball park figure would be around £1300 ish. I'll have to work out how much we paid for materials etc, but I'm sure it will work out cheaper.
I'm poorly at the moment and had a day of sulking around in the house when the other trades were working - basically I was just in the wayI'm still not well, thoroughly drained out at the moment and feel weak as a kitten
:(:(. I'm going over to the house now anyway to see what's happenign and how the plumbers are getting along.

Sounds like you did a lot of the work under direction which is close to the same thing as doing it yourself
Hope you feel better soon.
I spent last night fighting with the kitchen cupboards. It started off as trying to sort out the dishwasher as it wasn't level but this soon escalated into trying to get the worktop level at the sink. Basically the sink unit had been jacked up under the worktop and was bowing it. The sink clips hadn't been connected properly, and the ones above the dishwasher had just been left untightened.
Managed to get most of it resolved but it took the whole evening. Was rather annoyed to say the least and I'm not happy with teh upstands as there is a visible gap along a large part. Apart from raise the front legs to slide the flooring under most of the units haven't been touched so I dont think it can be something we've done. And the units have brackets at the back which should stop them moving anyway.
Also got the final couple of planks of laminate cut and installed and it looks fantastic. the kick boards need cut down as they joiners didn't leave enough space under the units despite taking a sample of both the underlay and laminate so they could put the units at the right height....... so they can just bring their stuff back and sort it at the same time they install the kitchen window.

When is BabyLC due anyway can't be far off ?
Vaguely remember having to tighten sink clips on our kitchen sink too! Not convinced they do much and the sealant probably holds it in anyway.0 -
Any news LC?
Guys, I want to build a log store for my wood obsession, can go down teh side of the house as a car doesn't fit down it adn it's used for storage! It'll have a slate roof which Father has left over and will be made out of timber. Any suggestions? I want to do it as cheap as possible so thinking pallets could do the job............ if so, will they need to be treated and any suggestion on taking them apart with those ruddy massive nails?
Many thanks!0 -
No news - was at the hospital yesterday and all is fine. Officially due next week.
BCO was round this morning and has found significant issues with several areas. Most of these were queried with and approved by the architect at the time so are waiting to hear his thoughts on this. Not what we need at the moment.
@suisidevw - pallets are probably ideal for your wood store. I used one scavenged from our work car park to load our wood on and then just covered with plastic. I suspect pallets are made from treated wood given that they spent a reasonable amount of time outside on building sites etc and still get re-used. No harm in additional treatment though.0 -
Good luck, let u sknow how the BCO goes............ approved by architect. Hmmmmm.
After posting above, found a few threads on log stores on here. a few pallets should sort me out! If only I had a nail gun to make it super easy! Alas, updates on it after the weekend!0 -
Just had conversation with the architect and he doesn't seem to think its a big problem but he couldn't possibly come out before his holiday next week. He doesn't see the point in submitting revised drawings as the BCO might find other problems when he does a final inspection - I've explained that the only major changes that are going to happen now are if the things he's approved get rejected by building control and that his approval doesn't actually matter in the grand scheme of things.
So he's going to have a discussion with the BCO and get back to us by end of tomorrow so we'll need to wait and see what happens.0 -
Definitely DEMAND him back asap. This is an extremely important and stressful time of your life LC!0

hello peeps, hope everyone is well!!! had the kitchen fitters back in today well the corian worktops have been done, however where they have been polished in there are some swirls etc on the surface and we will have to speak and bring them back to maybe polish it down again!! wasnt here to see how they did it.
the tap and sink and hob are in, ovens and warming draws have been put in (although one has a dent in the handle but now i know its there i dont know if we can live with it)
The plumbers coming tomorrow, to connect up dishwasher and tap.
however no sign of the electrician as hes had pneumonia! so that will have to be another day, which is handy as i still owe him £400 for certifying all the electrcal work the glassbox company did in the extension.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0
