Well, just uploaded some snaps of fireplace I finished yesterday. It's a solid fuel fireplace I bought off ebay and completely fitted myself going by advice and the internet! Really REALLY happy, and Lowri's a happy wife now! One pic of inspiration for those renovating, the first pic is of the room 4 months ago when we moved into the house and last photo taken this morning before work. Only 4 days until we can light it up!

    Hope you like :)

What a morning to have no heating! Absolutely freezing. We were ok last night with the stove going but tghe rest of the house was freezing. I even put the PC on in the small bedroom where we were going to sleep and turned on a game which stresses it just to get some heat output from it! this morning wasn't quite as bad - I think the heat from the stove must have gone through the house a little over night. Also got it going again this morning to give some heat.

We're going to try and source a couple of electric heaters from friends/colleagues althuogh when I breifly spoke to the builder this morning he said he had some in storage somewhere that he should have offered. He said if we needed them he would try and find them but I suspect it would be tomorrow before we got them so I'm keeping that as a backup!

He also said they would be concentrating on getting the new boiler installed and working within the next 2 days - I dont see it happening but who knows. All the big roof trusses are up but still need the little ones that go to the side of the last one. Hopefully they'll get them made and get the rest of the boards up to give us a covered space even if its not watertight. Again probably rather hopeful........
  • @TomsMom - fantastic news about TomsDad.

@stolt - sorry to hear about your tiling issues :( Glad you got it sorted in the end.

    @suisidevw - what a transformation :) Looks great.

My news - We have doors!!!!!!!!!!! The guy turned up, did the lot in a day. All I have to do now is paint them :(

It makes such a difference having doors, especially the kitchen door as I think it is saving on heating as the heat does escape to the cold hallway anymore, meaning it's on less.

I have taken some photos but not had time to put them up. Will do so soon.

Helping_hubby..how much were the doors to fit? Got a bathroom door and bedroom door to be fitted..plus need a new glass door for the lounge (current one is warped and won't close - is much warmer in lounge if it's held shut!). My Dad is my usual door fitter but my doors are always a problem. My Dad does a brilliant job on them with me helping but it usually takes at least a day for a doo ..and it's a 120mile round trip (think it's getting a bit much for him his DIY visits).

Maggie..hope it all goes through ok..make sure you take your meter readings to give to your new supplier (highly recommend Atlantic for gas /electricity). Move in by Christmas?! (but which year! :p)

And photograph them! You might have the keys by now :j. Congrats Maggie and Mr Maggie. Hope the weather is nice enough this weekend for you to play in your new garden :D.

latecomer Hope you get some heat sorted out soon. Just before Christmas is not the best time for all this to be happening.

suisidevw Looks fabulous. You've reminded me, must get DD to help get the tree and decs out of the crawl space today and try to get it done over the weekend - TD not up to that yet.

stolt Hope the tiling saga gets sorted this weekend.

helping_hubby Bet the doors look great :T.

Hope I haven't missed anyone out. Flying visit, a bit manic here. TD gone for his clinic visit, DD due for the weekend soon so presents to wrap for her and family, sofa man due any minute to put extra stuffing in the seat cushions as they're all wrinked.

TD spoke to the builders yesterday to tell them that rather than the original leak I phoned them about there were actually three leaks came through on the floor plus two on the wall under the window, plus above the window in the sun room. Paul gave his opinion of why it happened and they agreed that's what they thought too. They said we must have had some rough weather - jeez, I told them that weeks ago . Anyway, they've worked out what remedial action they will take and will be over when the weather allows. They've even said they will come in what is their normal Christmas break if necessary.

Thanks for the replies, it sounds like i'm not the only one having problems then,

latecomer - no heating, in is this weather, madness. i hope you get that sorted, i remember looking out the dfront door around 1ish and the car was covered in ice.

suisidevw - room looks really lovely, complete transformation. love seeing a before and after picture.

Maggie - congrats, hoep everything goes smoothly.

Well i really give up now, two problems, renderers came and found that the fascia bricks are all loose, so they couldnt do what they wanted, so a brickie is due tomorrow and try to fix that, the renderers will come back mondya weather permitting and try to catch up, at this stage i'm really loosing the will to live.

missus phoned as tiler is on site, cracked open the pallet of granite tiles, every single one is damaged!!! www.tilespoorcelain.co.uk have bascially said to me that i coudl have two batches of tiles on site and i'm switching them over, bloddy cheek, i'm fuming over it. So i have had to pay again for another batch of tiles to be sent out and once they are inspected they will refund me. I'm dumfounded on how they have treated me, tiler has already laid 12 (which he shouldnt have done) now i'm stuck otherwise i would have sent the whole bunch back. Will never deal with www.tilesporcelain.co.uk again absolute joke of company. My tiler thinks they were sent like that as they cant get that damage on the faces being stacked as they were. Tilesporcelain have said that they came in from india like that but earlier on the lady told me that they werre checked before they were sent, obviously lies. Paid for the 2nd batch by credit card so will dispute that once received so i can get our money back and they can have there damaged tiles back. if i had hair i would have pulled it out!

    heres few of them..
sorry to take up my the thread with these huge photos, but buy from a local shop i wont ever be buying tiles online again and certainly not with www.tilesporcelain.co.uk
