Bathroom looks fab latecomer!! Oh I absolutely can't wait until ours is done. Maybe only a few weeks now
Your stove looks great - we are hoping to get one also. Where did you gets yours from out of interest? Did you have to do a lot of work on the actual chimney?0 -

We got ours from a local supplier. It was a little more expensive than ordering it online but we needed someone to fit it and the person we bought it from has a builder that does all his work and hence it was easier and we liked them both too. There was quite a bit of work done at the chimney as the old fireplace (fire bricks etc) had to be removed, lintel inserted, tidying up and then the chimney was lined and backfilled. it was about 2 days work including fitting the stove. We paid £650 for all the building work excluding materials IIRC.0 -
What's wrong with the grout on the floor tiles? (Can't remember if you've already told us.)?
the problem was that the adhesive was entirely cleaned off between the tiles so when they were grouted (ivory grout) the grey showed up and it just looked a mess. The best I could do was to overfill the joins and then just smooth over with a damp sponge. Well thats the best I thought I could do, but I figured out for the walls I could simply take time and clean each and every tile in turn so the problem went away. Really wish I'd just removed the grout on the floor at the time as it would have been considerably easier to do it then.
trouble at the moment is I'm terrified of chipping a tile in a obvious way. OH is away tonight so I might continue carefully and see how it goes.
also jsut had a call from OH, builder has been back in touch already with a verbal quote for downstairs and they want to start within the next 2 weeks or so. Price is a little more than I was hoping it would be but we need to wait and see what the detailed breakdown is. I know it includes supplying and fitting a boiler and everything up to first fix in the kitchen.
Hopefully the other builders will be as quick with their quotes and we can get started pretty soon. Might need to think about getting a supply of skips asap if i'm going to take down the existing garage.0 -

I just posted a new thread in case people had missed it in the MSE email. I've printed mine offLooks like I'm buying my doors and fittings (and more paint
ugh dread the thought of having to paint 5 doors) this weekend
Shame as I wanted it on the next credit card statement, but it'd be a shame to miss out on 15% off, that'll be about £45 saved.

Have you seen those white 6 panel doors which will be £10? with another 15% off that's a bargain. I didn't know whether you got 'cheap' doors and could tell if the quality was poor?
We have really annoying firedoors everywhere on chains which are all propped open with some tool or another!0 -
I wish we had the money for a spending spree in B&Q. Just made a list of everything we need to do to get the basics finished *gulp* before any furniture or real decoration.
I actually feel temporarily sick and hoping I've severely overestimated the prices.
Can anyone help me out on 2 approximate costs
(1) wiring a room 3m by 8m - plug sockets, light fittings etc. nothing fancy.
(2) a roof for 3m by 8m part of it is pitched - i know it is really vague - but I have not even got a ball park figure for it. Don't know if it is like £10k £2k £500 (ha!)
Anyway in other less sickening news, we are having our gutters done today! Hopefully they will be looking beautiful soon enough!
:ABeing Thrifty Gifty again this year:A
