  • Have you recently moved there? Did you notice all the bites etc not long after you'd had the heating on for the first time? As they lie dormant under the floorboards and come alive as soon as the heating goes on. so they could have been there all summer. We had this problem when we moved into our new home last year. We used 4Fleas made by Johnsons.
  • havent had the heating on. I am seeing how long i can without it! i am wearing a jumper, then will go to two, them thermals, then might consider putting the heating on! hehehehe

I havent been home yet, so thinkin i will go home tonight, i have some extra streght tropic insect repellent, im going to coat myself in it. Brave at least one more night before i call in an exterminator!

Seriously try the electric flea traps - they work really quickly and are non toxic. I would get one for each room myself but they honestly DO work (and you can always sell them on then you're done with them ;) )

im thinking it would be much cheaper to get in the experts to douse your flat with tbh, only free thing i know of doing is to use lamps and bowls of water, shining the lamps into the bowls, and the fleas jump into the light, end up drowning in the water, but thats not going to do it short term, you need something straight away to help. £60 is alot cheaper than what you could spend doing it all yourself ...

I just got back from holiday to a flea infested house, luckily most of them jumped on the dog and cats rather than me. The animals were not happy though.

I spayed the entire house with Indorex and they were dead within a few hours. It works for 12 months and so will kill the fleas as they hatch. The bathroom will be flea free because there's no carpet for them to live in. Hoover the house to get them aggitated, throw away the hoover bag, spray each room into the corners and under furniture and go out for an hour. It doesn't smell bad and the fleas will die pretty damn quick.

You can get Indorex from a Vet or cheaper off Amazon but the postage may bump it up.

Unlike the stuff you buy in shops - it works! I had a similar problem about 10 years ago and tried everything in a local pet shop and even paid someone to spray the house - non of it worked. I then went to the Vets, and the stuff from the Vet did the trick. Apparently it has been a bad year for fleas this year..

    Good Luck.

I have been having trouble trying to log in, but i have been flea free for three days now, i havent seen one and i think (although its a little hard to tell) i havent had any new bites.

I loved the idea about the light with the bowl of water, but was hoping to use something money saving rather then buying the zappers and then having to exterminate as well. Hopefull the Acclaim, has now worked, i am going to see how long i can go with out hovering, before throwing away the hoover bag and putting in a new one.

    Thanks

Hi the best thing you can use is the vacuum cleaner but make sure you clean every room in 1 go and empty the bag outside. You could also try steam cleaning the carpets as well. Put some flea powder in the vac bag as well.

Well fingers crossed you have killed off the little bloodsuckers :) The electric thingies I mentioned aren't zappers - they work like the bowl of water etc but have sticky pads which I think also have some insecticide on them so the little !!!!!!s get attracted by the heat and light and something in the sticky thingies - hop on in and can't leave - they seemed to die pretty quickly going from memory :)

:j glad you have it sorted, they are horrible little things! To be honest I would try and get rid of any carpet that was already in the flat, as there may be eggs in it that aren't hatched, or steam clean it as that kills them too

We moved into a house that was absolutely hopping - the previous owner apparently didn't have pets so heaven only knows where the little blighters came from! We dealt with the infestation as aggressively as we could, we basically repacked and sprayed all of our stuff, washed as much as possible at the launderette (including all of the curtains), hired a carpet cleaner and washed all of the carpets in the house, and then sprayed everywhere with flea spray that we'd got from the local vets. Two weeks later we repeated the spraying, and we were flea free (and the house was much cleaner than it was when we moved in lol) :) Supermarket flea sprays just don't work, the best way to deal with an infestation is either a decent spray from the vets or get a local pest controller in.
