Hi can anyone help?....
I'm no techie-head but I put a lot of precious photos on my PC off my digital camera and usually they are transferred through Adobe Photostop Album Starter no probs but today I've tried transferring them and on trying to look at them in 'My Photos' I can't find them in the albums that they were tranferred to. I'm wondering if I accidentally did something when trying to 'clean up' my PC last week to make it run faster which means the transfer now doesn't work???
Anyone any ideas? Or does anyone know a simple/good/free method of transferring photos from your digital camera to your PC? because I keep running into problems.
Thanks, Kate

I just use the windows wizard to transfer the files from my camera, theres more control in where you put them ect, and its very much fit for purpose. I dont have any of the camera software installed on my PC theres no need, plug it in switch it on and let the wizard do its stuff. I then use Gimp to manipulate the images."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Hi thanks... where would I find the Windows wizard? And should I remove the programs that I have installed that automaticallly pop up on connecting the USB? My PC is Windows XP Home by the way. Oh and what's gimp?!

I'd open up Adobe Photoshop and go into the options and there should be an bit where you can select the default directory for pictures to be saved. Check what it is and if its different to MyPics then check to see if its got the pictures you expected to find.0

The photoshop didn't cost me anything..... so I'm happy not to use it if there's a simpler option!

EDITED to say... for some reason now I can't open Photoshop... grrrr0 -
Just a reminder that if you do not have two backup copies of your precious photos then you don't have any.
Reinstall photoshop you may have uninstalled it.0 -
Right... I've not explained the problem I seem to now have... I can transfer the photos to 'My Photos' fine but when I try to move them from one file to another, they disappear... what on earths that all about? I have a lot of different files as I use them for my website and need to organise my photos so have to move them sometimes.... what could be causing them to disappear within 'My Photos'?
Thanks, Kate0 -
Ok thanks a lot for that, really helpful. I'm not confessing to be any expert, I just want to continue to do what I've been doing and when I try to move photos from one album to another, they disappear and I don't know why as it's never done it before. Thanks to the other posters who just wanted to try and help.0

Hi Kate,
I'm no techie and I don't know what the problem is, but all the photos I had on my PC (running XP Home) in Adobe Photoshop vanished last week leaving just the thumbnails. I think (after a quick Google) that this may be a (massive) problem with photoshop, and Adobe aren't interested since it's free.
I've just downloaded Windows Live that includes Live Photo Gallery so I can upload pictures onto the PC, then upload them into my Windows Live Space as a back up.
So far this system seems quite quick and efficient.
Hope this helps!0 -
I appreciate you're diagnosis on my intelligence. I do wish I had hours to spend playing on my PC to develop essential skills but I don't... By the by... I tried exactly what you suggested in your original reply which even with my limited intellect, managed to do, but that didn't enable the individual photos, once in 'My Pictures' to be moved from one folder to another. It keeps coming up with the box 'This folder already contains a file named ......' and when I click to replace it, the photo has gone from either folder and the only way I can get it back is direct from the memory stick again. It matters not which program I use to import the photos originally.
