    Very nice thank you
  • Does anyone have anything similar currently available or in the pipeline for Economy 7/10 Meters?

I'm worried even more sick than I was - Scottish Hydro claim that my past 6 month bill (Spring/Summer) I still owe £600!!!!

I've had my underfloor heating totally switched off for 3 of those months, if it has been on it's a cpl of hours in the afternoon during 'cheap rate' and 3 hours in eve 'cheap rate' (ONLY in my living room at around 20 degs)
I have a solar panel which up until the past few weeks (bad weather) has been giving me all my hot water. I never leave my TV on stand by, rarely use tumble drier or water heater and have energy bulbs everywhere!

I'm on Scottish Hydro's Economy 10 meter but my day time readings are working out the same as lower rate (approx 14 units on Rate 1 and 2 each day)

My last bill was in March and it wasn't an estimate and my £50 per month Direct Debit totally covered it and that was over Autumn 07/Winter 08.

I've been off work since early May (on Stat Sick Pay and Housing Benefit) and realise that being in during the day would add a bit on to the bill but this is unbelievable!!!!

Am I entitled to ask Scottish Hydro to come a check the meter? I was told by someone that if they checked it and it was OK then I'd have to pay for the privilege.
    Anyone got any ideas?
Sorry for the moan but I'm going round the twist with worry.

I think you're saying your bills were manageable with a £50 DD but now they're not?

Forgetting about 'cheap rate' for a bit, you're using 14 units each day - do you mean 14 units total or 28 units total (14 day/14 cheap)?

Because 14 total seems more than reasonable for all-electric. 28 seems a lot of units. Do you know how many units your heaters are using?
  • Good work jd87...
  • Hi Magentasue thank you for taking the time to reply.
By my reckoning around 28 units are being consumed each day.
I'm completely baffled as to how the meter is clocking up that amount because I'm pretty careful (even more so now!)
I don't know how much the underfloor heating system uses (only have it on in living room and as of last week in the kitchen)

I would try some daily readings and compare with and without heating. Also, if you can, it would be useful to take readings for a day when you're out or everything is turned off. That way, you know how much the fridge, freezer etc. are using per day. We use between 8-16 units a day - family of six, someone home a lot of the day, gas cooking/CH/hot water.
  • Excellent work! Very useful....and i've just noticed a discrepancy between my usage (in £'s) on my pp meter and how much it should be costing me....it's not much but i want to know where my money is going!

Edit: Forgot to factor in my standing charge. Oops

Please be aware that the spreadsheet is rarely going to be 100% accurate anyway. For example the calorific value that is used in the calculations for gas can vary between regions and suppliers.
  • Was electric and it was a *big* difference ^^
