Useful Energy Bill Tool
Options
Now Updated 02/03/09
I've created something which I hope people on here will find useful. It's a spreadsheet to accurately figure out energy costs. You just enter information about your tariff, then enter your meter readings, and it tells you how much it costs. I'm hoping it will be useful for a couple of things:
http://www.!!!!!!/file/af3c110/n/Energy_Calculator2_2_xls
(Choose the "download with file factory basic" option, then enter the code you see, and click "Begin Download" and save it to your computer).
or here:

All feedback welcome!
[EDIT] Two tier gas now included.
*Disclaimer* - As this seems to be quite popular, I just want to mention that I can't be held responsible for any problems caused by basing decisions on this spreadsheet. I am by no means an expert on, well, anything!
I've created something which I hope people on here will find useful. It's a spreadsheet to accurately figure out energy costs. You just enter information about your tariff, then enter your meter readings, and it tells you how much it costs. I'm hoping it will be useful for a couple of things:
- If you only receive a bill once every quarter, you can use this part-way through a quarter to calculate the cost of what you have used so far. This will make it easier to ensure your direct debit payments are on track.
- You might find it useful for comparing tariffs. Enter your meter readings from your last bill, but enter rates from a different tariff and see how much it would have cost if you were to switch.
- It doesn't work if you are on an Economy 7 or 10 tariff.
- You need to know the rates you are paying in pence per kWh. These should be on your bill, or ask your energy company.
- If you want to compare rates of other tariffs you can find them at energyhelpine.com.
- You can use it for single or dual fuel tariffs. To use it for a single fuel, just leave the boxes relating to the other fuel blank.

I've created something which I hope might be able to help a lot of people on here. It's nothing too genius, it's a bit crude, it hasn't been tested by anyone but myself, and it might already have been done, but here goes.
It's a spreadsheet to calcuate the cost of energy bills. You just enter information about your tariff, then enter your meter readings, and it tells you how much your bill should be. I'm hoping it will be useful for a couple of things:- If you only receive a bill once every quarter, you can use this part-way through a quarter to calculate the cost of what you have used so far. This will make it easier to ensure your direct debit payments are on track.

To use it you have to know the rates you are paying for your electrcity/gas, in pence per kWh. You should be able to find these on your bill, or you can phone your energy company up and ask them. Rates of other tariffs can be found at energyhelpine.com.
You can use if for Electricity-only, Gas-only, or Dual Fuel tariffs. At the moment it allows for primary and secondary rates for Electric, but not for gas. To use it for a single fuel, just leave the boxes relating to the other fuel blank.
It's an excel spreadsheet. If people like it, I'll try uploading it in other formats too. It's currently located here:

Choose the "download with file factory basic" option, then enter the code you see, and click "Begin Download" and save it to your computer.

Thanks, have downloaded and will give it a try, will also see if it can be used for Economy 7 for my Mum but will have to check the meter to see if it's possible.Grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can and the wisdom to know it's me"0
