Newcastle to Exeter...normal it's a direct train that takes 6 hours and costs 92.25...however it's 105.65 because of going through London and needing to take a tube. I want to avoid London at all costs, but looks like if I travel by train it's literally the only way

and are no replacement buses being ran?

I would imagine there are and its your choice not to use them

I'm just venting about how they consider it fine to go repairing and shutting off the West Coast MainLine on a weekend for god knows how long! Why couldn't they do it on nights...and start the trains up again on a morning?!

Someone round here needs a reality check.

There isn't any replacement buses as my trains go diaganol across the country....so it's part of it thats cut off. So anyone travelling is diverted through London, which is straight down the east coast mainline and then go west. I can imagine that bus replacements would take longer anyway

Getting the work done at night would cost more plus it would be pointless, the tracks need to be repaired at some point, its not really sometihng to moan about

Good grief; engineers wanting to see - by daylight - what they are thinking of? What will Health and Safety be responsible for next. Ludicrous.

Anyone would think railways were - I don't know - dangerous or something. All that 'lectricity and high speed and all.
They do and can work in the dark. They use rail/track lights oh knowledgable one. Also they can terminate the electricity

I know - my OH is a Project Manager on the railways. Are you trying to tell me working in the dark trying to get it done in 3 hour shifts is safer than sectioning it off and working in safe conditions in the daylight over a weekend?
