Network Rail...I'm positive it's them!!

I'm just venting about how they consider it fine to go repairing and shutting off the West Coast MainLine on a weekend for god knows how long! Why couldn't they do it on nights...and start the trains up again on a morning?!
Now I'm having to travel for an extra two hours on Saturday and Sunday, change trains twice and go through London (never even been to London before) so not happy about that!
Oh and to top it all off, they whack another £12.50 on the journey for the priveledge of travelling through London

Good grief; engineers wanting to see - by daylight - what they are thinking of? What will Health and Safety be responsible for next. Ludicrous.
Anyone would think railways were - I don't know - dangerous or something. All that 'lectricity and high speed and all.0 -

Maybe it would be best not to repair them at all - voila, no inconvenience.
Shouldn't add the surcharge though - agree on that.0 -

Upgrading the line, not repairing.
The point was that it's literally EVERY weekend from end of August for the forseeable future and travelling has become a nightmare. To be fair I can cope with the extra two hours and changing, its the idea of being forced to pay more money for going through London through no fault of my own.0 -
Can you not use a coach service like National Express or Megabus?
Upgrading the line at night is pointless and even more expensive for the amount of work done. By the time the last train goes through at 1ish in the morning, there's only 3 hours or so before the next train in the morning. And that excludes running any freight trains, maintenance wagons and shunting trains to be in the right place in the morning. The man without a signature.0 -
I wish I could, my journey is normally 6 hours by train...which is now 8 I think with the changes etc, so God knows how long a bus would take! My only other option is flying which works out more expensive than train, but awkward times0

There shouldn't be an extra charge for the journey. Usually it means buses etc... but at still the same fare. Is it your choice to go through London or is there no other way? What journey are you doing?Cath x

Newcastle to Exeter...normal it's a direct train that takes 6 hours and costs 92.25...however it's 105.65 because of going through London and needing to take a tube. I want to avoid London at all costs, but looks like if I travel by train it's literally the only way0
