hi
I'm debating hypnosis for a couple of addictive traits I have ... well, 3 really ... should hypnosis deal with just 1 issue only, or if all 3 are around addictions / bad habits, could I have one that fits all? I've had some sort of hypnosis counselling before, but nothing really came of that, so I'm kind of hoping I can go along for a couple of sessions and come away not smoking, drinking or over eating .... or am I asking too much?!
also, any ideas where to find a good / recognised hypnotist?
thank you!

I've been hypnotised twice to try and stop smoking, both times lasted only till next morning. I found it a complete waste of money.
If you want to stop, only you can do it.

aaarrrggghhh..... I hoped the post would read "yes, I went once, paid a bit, and came out perfect" ... doh!! fed up with trying (and failing) at these issues, and really wanted someone to wave that magic wand

have you stopped smoking now Barneysmom?0 -
think it depends on the person. It worked for my wife, she stopped smoking but my mother in law carried on after 2 sessions.0

I'm still smoking. I've given up giving up

Tried patches too but didn't last very long. as soon as I went to stage 2 on the ptaches I was like a person deranged.
A bit too scard to try Champix in case of side effects.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

i dont think you can give up anything unless you really want/have to.
My mum has smoked from then age of 13, she is 61 now and takes so many tablets each day just to keep her stable but she still smokes!!!

I must admit, I don't get on with patches now .... they've worked for me before (up to 4 years quit!) but now give me pain and screw my concentration...
what is Champix?!0 -
Champix is a drug that is supposed to block the cravings of nicotine. Has a lot of nasty side effects. The trouble is that the public are fed a lot of crap about smoking being addictive. If it was people wouldnt be able to sleep for more than about 45 mins without needing another one. The reason the world likes you to believe it is an addiction is that they want to sell you patches and things but 1) why give more of the drug you are allegedly addicted to? 2) why do people not get "addicted" to patches at the same rate as smoking? Smmoking is a psychological habit and habits can be broken if you want to but patches Zyban accupuncture champix dont tackle the psychological element. Most hypnosis that doesnt work is for 2 reasons.I must admit, I don't get on with patches now .... they've worked for me before (up to 4 years quit!) but now give me pain and screw my concentration...

1) hypnotists are afraid to charge. I charge 1 months cost of fags ie £150 for a 20 a day habit and that is for a 1 session with a free back up session. I could do it for 320 but the success rate is not the same because the currency of commitment is money.
2) the person doesnt really want to give up or gives the wrong reasons ie doing it because OH wants them to. I have 3 questions in my questionaire designed to test commitment and if you fail any one of them I refuse to treat you. That way I get good resultsWho I am is not important. What I do is.0 -
But if you're commited to stopping, you wouldn't need hypnosis.
If patches weren't that good, the success rate would be a lot lower.
I'd been shown lungs in a bucket and it still didn't stop me.
I don't know

hi Absolutebounder
aha ... so you're a hypnotist/therapist? am I allowed to ask what the 3 questions are, and as a professional, would you recommend against tackling 3 issues (albeit addictive traits) together?
thank you:)0 -

it's a tough one - I really do want to stop, but want to make it as painless as possible...
although reading that back I'm not sure how committed that sounds
I've just got these 3 big issues around myself at the moment and want to kill them all at once ideally ... wonder if you can get "don't eat too much" patches, and "don't drink too much" patches?! there won't be a bit of spare skin on me at that rate though!! :rotfl:0
