Am I worrying?

Ok, I am! I have a 10 1/2yr old female cat (A moggy), who's in good health. *However* (and this is where I don't know if i'm worrying too quickly) i've seen her drink water 2x recently. Doesn't sound alot, but she's the sort of cat who drinks if on dried food & never if on wet. She's on pouches so has wet food 2x a day & normally i'd never see her drink. I'm wondering if i'm worrying for no reason, I mean drinking a few times sounds silly, but she's over 10 now & i'm worried is it diabetes or kidney issues?

I know it's a good idea to have a vet check her & I will, i'm just wondering if it might be needed now or if it's ok in 2 weeks, obviously I don't want to put her at more risk if it might be something & wouldn't wait, but I don't want to seem stupid either! She *may* have lost abit of weight but was overweight before so should have anyway, she's not thin or anything. Also, I notice she has some scabs on her stomach & one on her back, which i'm sure I took her to a vet about years ago but can't remember if it was a flea allergy. I can never see fleas on her & frontline her monthly. Will get that checked when at the vet also.

Guess I just need to know am I worrying unneccessarily?

Could be hot weather / hot house. I think a sign if not their usual self if they hover over their water bowl.


You could ring your vets / PDSA / RSPCA / Pet Insurance co.

Phone the vet and ask them, they will likely tell you to bring her in for some tests. This was one of the first signs my cat had kidney probs, so it would be good to rule it out if you can.;)

Best to get it checked now than in 2 weeks. It could easily be kidney problems - it might just be an infection but if left untreated it could become cronic.
Even if she is on wet food she should still be drinking water - if she is an outdoor cat you will more than likely find she's drinking rain water normally - both of mine do... they hate drinking indoor water unless they have too and will leave a bowl of fresh water all night only to be parched next morning when they go out and head straight for the nearest puddle of rainwater... cats!
