Sorry to up this one again, but I did a similar thing to the OP. Was thinking about ordering some clothes from Next, so decided to register on the site to save time later. When it opened my 'Customer Page' and I saw I had a credit limit of £300, I realised I'd actually signed up to a credit account.

Ten minutes later I phoned to explain and cancel, which the guy on the phone said he had done. Looking on my Experian credit report this morning, I notice the credit check Next carried out has knocked 50 points off my credit score.

Was just wondering if anyone knew:

    a) Seeing as I have not signed a credit agreement (and have no intention of doing, now the credit is closed) will it ever count as being open, and will it show up on my credit report, and

    b) What are the chances of Next agreeing to take the credit check off my credit report (as recommended by Experian) if I explain I was never interested in credit and the account is now closed?

I don't know the specific answers to your questions sorry. But, unless you're planning on applying for any credit in the near future then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The credit score that Experian provide is, in the vast majority of situations, useless.

I'd imagine the only way you're going to find the answer to question b is by giving them another call and asking them. I presume the front line staff wouldn't be able to arrange it for you as companies usually have separate departments which deal with this kind of thing. But, if you ask to be put through to someone who deals with credit files etc then you may have more luck.

We can all stop flapping about Next searching Experian, try looking at Equifax, that is the only CRA that they search. ;)
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
  • I got duped by this last week as well. All ready with my debit card to pay the bill and suddenly the transaction is complete, my order has been taken and there's something about £200 of credit on the screen. I tried to log back in and couldn't.

To add insult to injury Next then delivered on the wrong day when no-one was in. I had asked for contact details to be left and for the delivery NOT to be taken to a neighbour - they did the exact opposite and left it with the people across the road.

Lastly they included the next directory and waivered the delivery fee until next month. I had specifically clicked the option that said NO directory and that I wished to be charged for delivery with the order.

I am not happy. I really did try and read the screen properly but I obviously missed something pretty big. The thing that bugs me is that I need suits for work and next ones are the only type that seem to fit me. Being petite size the stock is never in the store so I have to order from the catalogue. Will carry on ordering into store in the future like I always have done.

Edit: Have just gone in to pay, looks like they gave me about £900 credit as I have £767 remaining. But the statement balance is zero. I just want to pay and make this go away. I'm assuming the balance will appear next month???? I don't always live at the delivery address and won't see a statement if it comes through the door.

the problem lies with you OP. the page clearly gives you a pay now option or not.
Was it a tick box thing (like when you do/don't want to be contacted) or a button.

If it's a tick box (which it MUST have been as I would never have chosed a 'pay later' button) then that's really quite cheeky. Granted I should have spotted it and yes it's my fault, but it's just not fair in this day and age of bad credit ratings as it's so easy to just keep clicking through stuff online.

Do you suffer from anxiety disorder?
    Does that matter?

As an anxiety sufferer I can see why the above would worry the OP. It feels awful and you might KNOW what you feel is irrational but you CAN'T HELP IT. So don't say 'oh well, she has anxiety so what she's worried about doesn't really matter' :(

Sorry but so many people just don't know how horrible it feels to be constantly on edge.

EDIT: Sorry if you were just trying to help the OP with a potentially undiagnosed condition but I can get a bit defensive :(
