I subscribed to the excellent Quidco deal in Martin's latest email for the special offer 3 mobile broadband and my E160G dongle duly arrived yesterday. I installed it and can access the internet fine, but when I attempt to log on to the My 3 website and register the number to monitor my usage, the password message is sent to the dongle in Chinese!
I called 3 and their Indian call centre eventually directed me to a non-functional part of the 3 website to upgrade the dongle software (www.three.co.uk/E160upgrade)
I've also tried going to a Three shop and getting them to extract the password on a Three phone, but either they didn't transcribe it correctly or for some reason it still doesn't work.
Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Obviously I can return the dongle to them, but would rather just find a way to make it work!
Thanks for any ideas :-)

Maybe a long shot but if you have MS Office then try and copy the word then paste it into a Word document and use the translator part of word to find out what it is in EnglishAlways looking for a bargain and to help0

is this of any use ? Im thinking if you have symbols in chinese and just put the English equivalent it might work because on my dongle the password was just random letters not an actual word.

I've got the same problem. Would like access to my3 account but can't get into it due to the language problem.
I went into the 3 shop in Winchester and they were extremely helpful and said they knew about the problem, as they had a customer in on Tuesday with the same issue.
They tried calling 3 customer services and were on hold for about 40 minutes before i gave up and told them i'd call them myself. And people complain about O2 customer service?
I've emailed 3 and will call them tomorrow...not holding my breath by the looks of things.
UPDATE: Ok i'll eat my words three called me back within 5 minutes of sending the email! GeordieLad looks like the weblink you have is wrong it should be https://www.three.co.uk/E160update
The E needs to be a capital. I've just tried it and it works, the software problem has been solved0 -
hi, i have the exact same problem, got a really god deal and now i can't get onto My3 to check my usage because the text is coming through encoded. i clicked the second link provided above, and click Save and when i couldn't work out how to use the files i'd saved, i went back and tried the Open option, but stil no joy. i have the zipped files from the link provided, and i 'un zipped' them, but i do not know how to make this work in conjunction with my 3connect software or instaler drivers or what ever they are. the booklet that came with the dongle said not to use the windows recomended drivers as they would not execute a complete installation, but i've already ended up uninstalling the whole thing and re installing it once, so the usage metre in the software is even more in accurate as it is only telling me what i've done since i reinstalled, and i know i have used more before that.
its doing my head in. please reveal to me the secret! xxxxxxxxx0 -

Unplug the dongle Uninstall the "whole thing again". Unzip the downloaded files into their own directory on your PC. Double click on the setup.exe file in that directory. Plug in the dongle and Robert should be your mothers brother. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
thank you very much, its sorted, i unzipped into a new directory and ran the setup like you said, then also ran the other application in the folder to download the modem drivers. my password was then sent un-encoded. thank you! x0

I also have this problem. I have read the thread but I am not techie and do not understand, sorry :-(
I clicked on the link provided and clicked save. It took about 20 mins and it then asked me what I wanted to do with it. I don't know anything about zipped files or directories, so don't know how to 'unzip' them, so I clicked open folder. Having done that, I doubled clicked on setup.exe. This seemed to uninstall the software and reinstall it again. However, when it finished, my message had gone!! I went onto my3 and requested another password but when it arrrived it was still in chinese
I spent about 6hrs trying to sort it out and ended up going to bed at 4am, still no better off.
Could someone please, please provide me with an idiot's guide to what I should be doing. I am on my thrid day with the dongle, so if I cannot sort it, I need to cancel today.
Please help me............Karrie x0 -

So where have you saved the 3ConnectWinbuild53.zip file? You need to copy this to a directory on your hard drive and then right click "Extract files here" Then follow instructions in post #7. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Hi,
I clicked on save and just went with the defaultIt is in users/karrie/downloads folder. This is where I double clicked on setup.exe.
Is this not where it should be?

If it's in your downloads folder it will be with everything else that you have downloaded. If you right click "Extract files" it gives you the option to extract the files to a directory of your choice. e.g. one that you have created for this problem. Either copy the downloaded file to a new directory i.e. 3Fix and extract there or create a new directory 3Fix and extract the files to there from it's present location. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
