Locking wheel nut key
Comments
-
Just had my Focus locking wheel nuts removed by a local small garage, having lost the key, after a local main dealer thought it would be nice if I paid them £70 for the priviledge of removing them , they quoted 2 weeks and £30 to order the key but only if I had the code. The code comes in the same plastic bag as the key so chances are if you don't have the key , you don't have the code.
Chap at the local garage welded a bolt onto the end of them and used that 20 mins all 4 off.
Seems odd that the Ford dealer service reckoned they deal with a lot of these situations, it suggests to me that Ford have got something very wrong.0 -
And did they let you watch for the few minutes it took them knock a cheap socket on with a lump hammer and remove your lock nut?
If you care about your wheels, it's all about removing the locking nut very slowly and carefully.
And I didn't need to watch - I knew all the technicians at that dealership, and I knew the quality of their work and that they wouldn't rip me off.Philip0 -

Any Ford dealer should be able to 'read' the nut code and that will tell him which key he needs - he can then order one up direct from Ford if he doesn't have one in stock. Available within 24 hours usually.
This of course does assume it's a genuine Ford locking wheel nut, can't be done with aftermarket locking wheel nuts from the likes of Halfords.
Not sure how much just the key socket is, but as whole set including the key is only about £25 retail, it shouldn't be too much."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

And where would he read this nut code? It's certainly not on the nut or in the cars entry in the database.
There is no markings on the nut and you certainly won't find anything in any database. Ford locking wheel nuts are not a factory fit item.
I put the word 'read' in in that way as I meant you can obtain the code by simply looking at the nut (in a similar way that a Ford dealer can 'read' an ignition key number by the way it has been cut)."Now to trolling as a concept. .... A piece of advice:- replying to ancient threads that you've searched is a bit silly.
Anyway, the £5 at a local back street was the best advice - that porsche stuff about damaging the wheels - lmao.
