My record daily download was 37GB in one day.

    Thats incredible!!

Whos your provider? Do they NEVER limit you in ANY way?

  • He's already said he's with BE.

And no, there are no reports of them limiting you that I've read of. IIRC they at one time said that 500GB a month was fine.

Be don't limit your speed if you download too much, but they do give you a warning, and then if that doesn't work, they can terminate your service.

    What about excessive network usage?

If it’s felt that any Be member’s Internet activities are so excessive that other members are detrimentally affected, Be may give the member generating the excessive web traffic a written warning (by email or otherwise). In extreme circumstances, should the levels of activity not immediately decrease after the warning, Be may terminate that member’s services."

Of course like any good debating point there's absolutely no specific numbers mentioned in what they consider "fair use".

  • He said "they do give you a warning" - I've yet to hear about someone who's actually had one. There's a massive difference between documented cases of them giving warnings and them having a clause enabling them to.

It's standard for an unlimited ISP to have a FUP. I'm not aware of any who don't.

O2 are rapidly expanding Be. I imagine the more exchanges they're available on, the more customers they will get, and the more likely that they will start invoking their FUP (which is there for a reason, regardless of whether or not they've used it yet).

Me neither. Which is why I don't like them. I prefer to know exactly how much I can download.
  • So I can assume you've heard of nobody actually receiving the letter asking them to download less?

Because I know a few people who do hundreds of GB a month, anything up to ~500GB, and they've not heard a peep from Be.

Of course it's there for a reason, but so far I've heard of nobody receiving a letter. At least for now, it's cheap and welcomes heavy downloaders.

I don't mind a FUP tbh. I can't get Be here, but I'd jump at the chance. An unofficial limit of 500GB a month is way more than I'd use, and the price and upload speed is great. You can't get anything near the speed/download limit for £24 a month.

I don't dispute it's good value, or that it's a very good product.

I just prefer to know what I'm paying for.

And I can't get it here either, so I don't have much choice. ;)

To be honest I didn't interpret Marty's posts as even implying that there were. Just making people aware of the FUP.
