Download Limits?

Hi guys,

I have Option 2 with BT and it has a 15Gb limit for download.
I have noticed that i was at 19Gb last month but I cannot understand why. My son uses You Tube etc a lot so does this count as Download even though it is just viewing them and no saving them to our PC?

Does even using the web pages count? Sites such as Sky have a 10 secs segment of the latest news when you go to their News site, does this count?

I am really confused and need information so that I can start trying to cut down as BT every month say that they have charged for the extra usage at 60p per Gb and imply it is a one off and I should not do it again but they have said that every month for the past 18 months.

Should I upgrade to the unlimited packge, Option 3 (subject to fair usage).

Yes ladygooner, all content that you view or listen to over your internet connection couonts towards your download allowance, not just files that you save on your hard disk. Video streaming (such as YouTube etc.) does make a big impact as the files you are viewing are large, even if you are not saving them.

May account for why my allowance is not enough.

Question now is whether I should just pay for the extra allownce at 60p per Gb or go for the Option 3 and let him carry on as he has.

i would go for option 3 - it's £4/month extra

ask if you get a hub phone as part of the upgrade. this will give you a second phone line with a different phone number, great for teenagers and it has free off peak and weekend calls (keep it under 1 hour each call).
then you can let them stream music videos from utube all day:j

Depending on how much you are currently paying per month, it may be worth while going over to another service like BE or the cheaper O2 etc that are truly unlimited.

My record daily download was 37GB in one day.

The other point if you have wireless or a trojan, people can download and upload s/w from you and you pay for it.

Ok, I admit it. I'm impressed. Not that my speed would allow me to get near that even in 24 hours anyway. (what speed are you on?)

I'm on BE, but have my download set at about 14M-ish to be rock solid as I live about 1 mile from the exchange so any higher ans the modem starts to loose sync. Think it took under 12 hours too. Just woke up the next morning a chunk of disk space had vanished and there were my files.

Just a one-off occasion. Never really tried to download this amount before or since.

Well mines about 1/7th of that so I'm suitably envious. I can't imagine it would be anything more than a one off. I've maybe wanted to download a 6 GiB game or something but definitely not near that capacity (think we're on a "40 GB" monthly limit anyway).

i would switch to say O2 with no limit. and cheaper than BT.
37gb in one day is very impressive! i thought my 30 odd gb in one month was high!
