  • Sorry guys.

I'm looking at a 32" as the room isn't very big.

It seems Panasonic and Sony are my best two options for optimum standard definition viewing

OK, so that wipes out plasma.

I'd add Toshiba to your list for 32" LCDs.

    A friend's got a 100Hz 32" Panasonic and it's the mutt's nuts.
  • According to Which? magazine (no adverts) in the 26" to 37" class these are the best buys:
    1)Panasonic Viera TX-32LZD80 84points
    2)Panasonic Viera TX-32LXD85 76points
    3)Panasonic Viera TH-37PX80B 74points
    4)SONY Bravia KDL-32W4000 70points
    5)LG 32LG5000 65points

    16)Polaroid TLU 03723B 21points "DO NOT BUY"
    Nice to save.

Funnily enough I stumbled across the LG 32" PG6000 Plasma which has had very good reviews.

Are plasma generally regarded as having better picture quality than LCD's ??

Because of the inherant way they work, LCDs tend to be best up to around 32", then its a bit of a transient period, 37" and above tends to favour plasmas. This is all purely by design of how 'they work'.

Lcds also have problems with 'movement' and 'dark scenes'

Plasmas have a problem with 'screen burn' (But this is only in the first 6 months then it should clean right up)

  • Don't forget to check the power consumption, particularly if thinking of getting a slightly older set. Apparently, some sets, particularly plasma, and particularly the larger ones, use a lot of electricity. Something to consider in view of the huge rise in electricity prices.
  • re Which? magazine Sept 2008. I should have said they recommended a couple of last years (2007 models) best buys which are only slightly different to current models (eg SD card reader missing). They say these are now under £400 online.

    The models are:
    Panasonic TX-32LMD70
    Panasonic TX-32LXD7
    Sony LDL 32U3000
    Nice to save.
