Got to be wrong somehow, Alien/Donna, when Comodo can't recognize Avast as legit.
They all wanna be top dog, so make extra buttons, make it more complex and sideline the opposition seems the way they do it
Appeals to the young geek, but an oldie like me don't want it.
Something simple, something safe , something discreet should be the mantra.
By all means fight amongst themselves, but don't let the customer see it. Like watching the police squabbling about which baton is best or which siren is the loudest.0 -

Are you on XP or Vista? I just ask because the XP windows firewall in particular is NOT very safe. Also ANY windows product is FAR more likely to be 'hacked' into as its what the 'basic' user has.
I agree that comodos basic setting 'should' allow Avast by default, but once its set its set, so I dont see a problem

I'm not wireless, with plusnet, who have set the router firewall at LOW, the recommended setting, plus windows XP firewall. Have disabled Comodo, PC working like a dream.
A site called Stealth something has given it all clear.
Unfortunately Ken you are surfing in blissful ignorance!
You have disabled a good bi directional firewall and are relying and a crap inbound only one - why?
When you checked your set up using Shields UP, your machine was not being checked as it was hiding behind your router. It was your router that was being checked. If you picked up a trojan that collected some of your personal details, it could easily send this data out to a server somewhere and you would be totally unaware of this happening!
The windows firewall can easily be disabled and most good personal software firewalls do this automatically for you.
What anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware protection do you use? or do you believe that less is more? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Yes Espresso got all the usual. Thank you Donna, good thread.0

Rubbish. I'm as old as you and possibly older, but alas that bears no relevance to the situation here. You have had GOOD advice from people here but you seem to either have a blindfold on or simply make excuses. The way you are operating is smply a nonsense and I can see the day comming when you will be back on here asking for help in cleaning up the mess you find yourself in. When that time comes, don't moan if someone says "Told you so".Appeals to the young geek, but an oldie like me don't want it.0 -
Windows Firewall is on by default, don't think I can switch it orf.
Comodo is recommended for custom configuration, doubt the ordinary surfer needs all that guff.
It is easy to switch off windows firewall.
In the RUN window, type services.msc
In the Services window,
o locate "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)"
o Stop the service
o Set "Startup type" to "Disabled".

Yes have downloaded Comodo (again) using it now.
Opted not to use defense+, thought I wouldn't know how to use it anyway. Windows firewall off.0 -

Defense mode isnt NEEDED, but its certainly safer. if you ever need a hand with it give me a nudge (I admit its confusing to begin with)
The firewall however is FAR safer than using the inbuilt windows one.:idea:0 -
As Donna says, lots pf progs aint compatable (sp).
When I go up the library I don't have problems don't have to figure this out and figure that out.
Time someone, Google perhaps, invented an online system that wasn't hackable.
Like they do with web based e mails. all messages checked in and all messages checked on the way out.
Everything will be online eventually, time it was sorted.0 -
