  • as your windows defender is anti-spyware and your norton is anti firewall (plus perhaps a firewall) you can have them both running together without conflict.

It is 2 anti virus (or 2 software firewalls) running together that may/are likely to cause problems and are therefore recommended against by most experts.

On my vista SP1 laptop, I have been running the Sunbelt firewall and the Avira Anti Vir in conjunction with Ad-aware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Windows Defender for quite a while without any compatability or conflict problems. I also run CA Anti-Spyware off the Yahoo toolbar.

    The Vista firewall is disabled.

Perhaps this is overkill, but I have had no problems (touch wood!!) and want to keep it that way !!

Being Scottish as well as a money-saver, all the above programs are free !!
  • sorry for typo, the first line of my previous post should read

"as your windows defender is anti spyware and your norton is anti virus (plus perhaps a firewall) you can........."

arent routers used when people have wireless internet? i dont have wireless internet. it comes straight from the modem via an ethernet cable.

I'm not wireless, with plusnet, who have set the router firewall at LOW, the recommended setting, plus windows XP firewall. Have disabled Comodo, PC working like a dream.
A site called Stealth something has given it all clear.

Routers have firewalls, so why have another.

    You mean NO software firewall?
Routers firewalls only stop certain types of attacks. NOTHING more. If you ran a computer with just the routers firewall on and NOTHING else then your open to so many attacks its untrue!

You then say "Just told yer, also Windows Firewall."
And most people, experts included, will always recomend Comodo, Kerio or most other firewalls before Windows Firewall.

Windows Firewall is on by default, don't think I can switch it orf.
Comodo is recommended for custom configuration, doubt the ordinary surfer needs all that guff.

Your entitled to your opinion Ken
But I really HAVE to disagree with you choosing windows firewall over comodo.
