R4 help - Please!

I have an R4 card for my friends DS but am having no joy getting it to work. I have already helped another friend today with their R4 card and that was fine, this looks the same but won't work no matter what I do.

It didn't come with any software, just the 4gb micro SD, the adapter and card reader. It had no files on whatsoever on the SD so I assumed it would need the same Moonshell software as the other card so I copied this on and put on the games (which I know are fine)

But when I turn the DS on there is a black screen with LOADING..... on the top screen but nothing happens.

I have tried downloading the software again, same thing happens, tried running without software, nada, have followed tutorials on youtube, nothing, every time, the blank LOADING screen and thats it.

Does anyone have any idea whats going on?

Does the ds play normal games,

Yes fine. I usually use a supercard with it though, just using it to check that the R4 card is working.

have you tried the 2nd r4 in the other ds

seems like its the 2nd ds, but it plays normal games ok, honestly dont know whats up sorry

I would try formatting the SD Card
pop it in the computer right click on it..... click on format and then format in FAT32.
Reload moonshell ,etc.

Just to clarify...

I have 1 DS lite which normally uses a supercard and works fine, has also had an R4 card in today and that worked fine but second R4 card with same software as first doesn't work....

I don't want to let my friend down as she bought the card on my suggestion, been fiddling it with it for hours now

My suggestion would be.....have you tried swapping the memory cards from one R4 card to the other? That would then tell you if its the SD card or R4 card itself that has a problem.

Also when you copied files from first SD card to the other did it copy absolutely everything? I'm just wondering if there were maybe a hidden file or 2 that didn't go across?

Personally I use a 2gb SD card in mine as I read reviews that said the 4gb cards aren't very stable when used with an R4 card.
Things might have changed since then though as I have had mine a couple of years.

I have had the black 'loading' screen once before. The card went from working normally to suddenly only getting as far as 'loading'. In my case reformatting the microsd card worked - we basically had to erase all data from it and start again. Just in case you have missed out a couple of key files, have you tried following the instructions on one of the YouTube videos? There are quite a few to choose from and this is what I did when I first got an R4 card.
