The OP knows 8p in the £ is 8% but believes that some people reading the notice would think 8p wasn't very much but that 8% sounds more. The OP knows the amount is the same but thinks the perception of others is different.
TB could well be right - given the poor understanding of everyday numeracy exhibited by many. OTOH, they might think 8p in £1 was a better rate for them than 8%!0 -
8% just for swapping coins about?????? Where can I get one of these machines! Presumably, the supermarket must be on a big cut or they wouldn't let their customers be ripped off without them getting something.0

Bag it up yourself (you can get the bags from any bank) and pay it into your account.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

i bought one of those change machines out of boots xmas sale £4.99 and its worth every penny think they are about £20 new they have them in argos as well instead of spending hours sorting out coins it does it all for you and now i just put my loose change in it and keep some cash bags handy saves time and getting dirty hands off all those coins0

I use my spare change for my childrens accounts. I make my eldest (4 years old) sit and help me count it up...its good maths practice for her and helps her to understand the value of it going into her account. Plus its probably the only way I can afford to make any savings for them!Make £5 per day in August= £100/£155
Paid MS- £5+ £10 GR, £5 RE, £15 MS
£65 ebay profit
Waiting on payment- E160 BAI

I personally do not see the problem with these charges. They offer a service at a convenient location, with long opening hours, and they clearly display their charges. You do not have to spend time sorting the change yourself, you just throw it all in.
You have the choice of paying for this convenience or not.0 -
Lots of supermarkets now have self service. You could always just use all your small change there when paying. Not something you would have done with a cashier who might not have appreciated having to count up all those coppers.0

last time i used 1 it was 7p per £. id rather count it myself an go to the bank0

I'd rather count it myself and take it to the bank but a) the banks are anal about how much they will accept b) I end up paying for parking near the bank c) my time is worth 'more' doing something else. 8% is a godsend personally0
