Can I transfer money to Barclays ISA online?

Hi,

I have just opened an ISA with Barclays, however when I try and transfer the money from my Barclays current account to the ISA I get the message 'Sorry - we can't make a payment to one of your accounts. Please choose 'Transfer money' to move money between two of your accounts.' However, I cannot do this as it give me no option to transfer to that account!

Any ideas?

I think it must be possible because I don't do telephone banking and didn't go in the bank to do it so must have done mine online. It wasn't that long ago but I have a terrible memory .

Just checked online and thinking about itI may have transferred the money to my account with RBS and then transferred it to the ISA.

The answer to your question is no, as I found out to my chagrin when I tried it.

You open the account on line and assume that you will be able to operate it in the same way but you can't. You probably got a pack when you opened the account. The info on how to load it is in there. I didn't read mine until I got to the step you are at.

Those that open the account on line with the full amount are not affected as the first payment is automatic on opening.

You can set up 'Pay a person' on HSBC, of which I set my ISA as the payee. Can you not do the same with barclays online system?

Lokolo - I think that's what JMC39 tried in the first place. It sounds like the barclays system detected that it was his own account, and thus directed him to the transfers section. Unfortunately, the option to transfer to the ISA does not exist online.

JMC39 - I rang Barclays online banking helpdesk about this, and was told I needed to ring the ISA department on 0845 603 0845 to do a transfer.

Sorry, for my lack of response earlier. Lokolo, yes you are correct about the issue I had. Will ring them to sort it out....shame noto0870 is down at the moment
