Atlantic Electric and Gas Rebate

Options
I have been an AEG customer for two years now. Checked on comparison sites everytime I received a bill and only the odd time has someone been cheaper and even then not enough to worry about switching over.

When I was checking this time around I remembered that they give you one months worth of DDB back every 13th month as a loyalty bonus.

I then checked back and realised I have never received such a bonus.

I called up the customer service number (freephone :D ) and explained. She said my next bonus was due next month. She also checked back and credited last years bonus as the "system" had failed to do it.

So if you are with AEG it might be worth checking that you are reciving your loyalty bonus.

Also worth adding that the customer service was excellent. Freephone number, answered within 30 seconds, resolved within 4 minutes :T

  • Thanks for the post. I switched to AEG a few months ago, I had completely forgot about the 13th month rebate. Will make a note on my calendar.

I've had the same thing happen - they "forgot" to send it to me, but once I phoned and reminded them, they refunded straight away.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I received the Loyalty Discount in my bank account in July but have since decided to move to Scottish Power to get a capped rate. My September final account shows "Atlantic Loyalty Discount - £54" and "Refund direct to bank account +£54", with "Account Adjustments £0.00".
The above two amounts cancel each other and my account charges and payments have no sign of the discount provision. As I read it the Loyalty Discount has been taken back but Customer Services insist that "while it is rather confusing" the discount has been allowed.
    Any thoughts?

    It looks right to me.

First they are sayign they owe you £54 loyalty discount. So your account is in credit by £54.00

Then they show the refund to bank account of £54.

This then makes your balance zero.

Ok i just contacted then , no incentive for non Direct Debit customers - glad i left, how inconsiderate.
  • Generally companies will give you a 'prompt payment discount' if you pay your bill on time and you do not pay by direct debit. it is common practice from companies to now charge you for not paying by dd. Where as you get a discount if you do. Why are you so against DD?

I do pay promptly, I just choose to use a standing order that way I have control over the payments not the other way around, these huge companies often have no idea what they are doing and their mistakes (as I have read today with one guy having over £3k mistakenly DD'd form his account) can cause the little man considerable issues.

I have had many problems before with wrong dates and wrong amounts resulting in charges which stop over payments coming out then more charges, I just don’t trust them as they don’t care at all and there is no chance of getting them to sort it out unless you waste lots of time and are prepared to endure long phone calls, stress and annoyance.

I had a friend who thought I was mad, he said oh DD is so much better I don’t have to worry about paying bills it just all comes out and I don’t have to think about it , 2 weeks later he told me he had to eat his words as his work had paid him late and all his DD bounced resulting in multiple charges and not actually being able to cover bills the following month, he also admitted that one month a DD had gone out very late and he thought it had already gone out spent the money from the account and then got a letter form the company as it had bounced and subsequently a charge form the bank.

After claiming back over £2000 form bank charges I will be damned if it will give then the chance to take more, that’s why I don’t like them, I don’t feel I have control and any mistakes they will not answer too, when you are on a tight budget things like this really matter, what about people on benefits ? one mistake by a company and that’s a whole weeks money gone, no food and undoubtedly several knock on effects that just get greater with further charges from companies for late payments, form banks for the money not being there (even though they can put you in debt to take it themselves, i.e. payment for £32 bounces as not enough money in account, charge of £35 which gets applied but the bill still needs paying) and interest, meaning that DD's can be the start of the end for some people

So yeah, I can organize prompt payments where I control the frequency amount and date automated but only prone to mistakes if I make them.

hope that explains how I feel, I am also against banks taking irrelevant information and trying to force you to give it ( you would think they are building an information database to link in with the ID card system) I am currently trying to pay off an account with HSBC and they wont let me until I fill in a 4 page questionnaire on my life, I have written and complained but they just ignore and ask me the exact same again, they are really not interested in their money coming back to them (why should they, after all its just a figure on the screen which they can duplicate) what they really want is you information which I think is terrible , anyway sorry off topic rant over, I hate banks, their unwarranted intrusive requests for information and their direct debit rubbish.
