Looks like the protesting has started. You can kinda see their point!

If I were American I'd certainly be protesting!0

If I were King Canute, I'd certainly be protesting about getting my feet wet.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Must say I`d be livid too.
The greedy banks have ripped customers off for years in their quest for obscene profits.
Now everything`s come tumbling down they expect the people they`ve robbed for years to bail them out!0 -
<even more pedantic>
Surely the point about King Canute was that he didn't expect to get his feet wet?
No, King Canute "tried" to hold back the tide as a demonstration to his courtiers that he was not omnipotent. He knew he couldn't hold the tide back and that his feet would get wet.

Anyway, my point was that despite the incredible unfairness, it needs to be done, so there's not much point in protesting.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I also agree it needs to be done.
I cannot see however, why within this they cannot also secure homes with less foreclosures - perhaps turn them into social rentals to same people? (maybe not possible in a country with no benefit system or have they?) Also make sure none of those responsible gain.0 -

good reliable source :rolleyes:
the original fable was that canute commanded the tide to stop coming in and when it did not he realised the limits of his own power. it was later adjusted by retelling to the sort of thing in your source, probably as a religious tool. it's all just a myth anyway, that has been altered by chinese whispers.0
