Reversed Paypal payment after item posted

Good morning everyone :)

Need a little bit of help here.....just got an email from paypal saying that a payment i have received has been reversed by the buyer's bank. As it was paid for on the 17th its already been posted out (recorded delivery), and probably received by now, but paypal have took the money out of my account until their investigations are complete.

Have sent paypal all the info they asked for, just wondering if anyone knows how long these things take, and if im likely to get my money back

  • Have you checked the tracking?
    Was it a confirmed address?

Checking whether the item has been signed for would be a good start :)
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • Have checked royal mail, no info on there as yet, and it was a confirmed address.
  • Most recorded deliveries aren't signed for these days. I sent one the other day no tracking on RM's site and the goods have arrived.
  • It does normally take a day or 2 after delivering for the website to be updated with the details, so guess i will just have to wait a bit to see if they have received it.

In a similar situation to the OP, I sold something on eBay - I'm talking cheap, even with postage it came to £2.80 or so.

Obviously I sent it, verified address, buyer leaves good feedback, then a week later gets put "on hold" while PayPal investigate.

I supplied all the details, it was sent normal post (but I offered proof of posting), then a week (or so) after that got an email back saying thank you and the hold had been lifted.

No idea what that was all about.

Thanks, mine was only cheap too, and as you got your money back without recorded delivery, i think i shouldnt have a problem as ive given them all the details they asked for, its just a bit worrying when it happens so long after payment has been sent
  • I sent an item back to a Seller - it was totally not as described.

I sent it back Recorded Delivery. Three weeks later the Seller had still not refunded me and it was not signed for.

I had to fax ebay the copy of the Recorded Delivery slip and then paypal refunded me immediately.

What happened there I really don't know.

Right. I have experienced this a lot.
If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
  • I have checked all the items i sent on the same day as the one that they have done the reversed payment on....all the other items are showing as delivered on royal mail apart from this one.....as i have paid the extra to royal mail to make sure that i know when it has been delivered, could it be their fault if this hasnt been delivered? I have just checked again and its still not showing as delivered. If i send a message via ebay to the buyer asking if theyve received it, would this appear bad to paypal to contact the buyer when there is an investigation going on and not help me to get my money back?
  • Also, as the buyer has not contacted me asking where the item is after this amount of time, doesnt this seem a bit strange? Even though it was stated in the auction that dispatch would be within 10 days of auction end, I would still like to know if/when it would be posted, especially if it was paid for straight away.
