I managed to get ripped off today by signing one of these agreements for a laptop on smart plan from PC World, the worst thing about it is that the salesman was one of my sons friends. Going to end up paying £1180 for a laptop worth £417 plus the insurance! I knew the figures didn't quite add up in my head but because I trusted him I didn't bother opening my handbag and using the calculator on my phone.....what a plonker!0

oh my!
We all have moments of poor judgement (I certainly have had a few!)
Read the small print and see if there's some get out clause or cooling off period but as it's business and not domestic I suspect the terms and conditions won't be as favourable as for home users.
Your son's friend should really have looked out for you though but I'm sure the ££££ signs were too tempting.

Unfortunately its one of those agreements that as soon as you have signed they've got you, although.......
I called the 'business team' at the PC World Branch on Sunday morning to complain. They finally picked the phone up after it had been ringing for at least 20 minutes!
I told them that things had not been explained to me fully. I was told "there was no interest and we would not pay any more than the price on the ticket". Nothing was said about the fact these figures were arrived at after the VAT had been reclaimed and tax relief. I told them that this was misleading and they were in no position to make assumptions about our business. I said that if I had been given ALL of the information then I would have stuck to the original plan and just bought the laptop, and would still buy it if it was cancelled.
I was told that each case was looked at on an individual basis and they would contact smartplan and call me back sometime during the day. Half an hour later they called back to say they would cancel the agreement! I went in later that day, the agreement was cancelled and I purchased the laptop outright.
I would like to think that it was ignorance on my son's friends part rather than his commission. Either way, I won't be stepping foot in PC World again and according to my husband my sons friend won't be stepping foot in our house again!0 -
i am 17 months into second lease just found out still paying £30.65 old contract on top of new contract because smartplan has not recieved old pc unit from pcworld who told us to leave it with them, smartplan say its pcworlds fault they should not do this you should send it direct to smartplan at end of contract .
so after end of the contract if you do not send the pc back smartplan automaticly take it for granted you are still keeping the pc and put you on a rolling contract.also without asking they slapped on over £7 onto your cost for insurance cover per month.
when making complaint cannot get to speak to superviser or management sorry cannot do that only get to speak to underling.
so i cannot for the life of me recommend smartplan to any body to lease pc equipment only if you do not mind paying twice as much as the equipment is worth.0 -
A friend of mine got done up at the end his PC World Lease as he had to pay the market price for the kit after three years of way high interest. He got leasing from a small company that were specialist in leasing called hardsoft. There web is hardsoft.co.uk . Kit was cheaper than PC World and you get it at the end for a £1 or something.Worth a try ? if leasing is for you :j Oh they do insurance cheap as well.0

if you can muster it, perhaps an intelligent post?
Again, you're quick to bash the poster about reading forum etiquette and
rules.
No one cares for your 'industry' experience. Just like nobody cares that i'm a professional rock god. Anyone can be what they like over the internet, can't they?
Furthermore, if i was to start a SMALL business and didn't have the capital to start up and was offered to have a PC at £4 a week i'd take it. Just because you end up paying an extra £200 in interest doesn't mean much for a small start up company. I'd like to also say that the interest goes to the guys who provide the credit (easiplan or something).
Not only that you get 25% cash back on the original cost of the PC AND you get all the knowhow services included; oh and if you wanted to buy it outright at the end of the plan you can do so for 10% of the original cost
No, I'm not a PC world employee I just took the liberty to read up on what you are bashing on.
Also one last note, it doesn't say ANYWHERE that PCs NEED replaced after 3 years, it for the people who prefer to have updated equipment without the hassle of constantly upgrading hardware.0 -
Why bother replying to part of a post made over 3 years ago(#11)?0

Why bother replying to part of a post made over 3 years ago(#11)?
Because I'm allowed to. Is there forum rules about posting in old conversations?
Needless to say, I haven't stopped you from posting nor have i asked you why you post so i'd prefer if you showed me the same decency.
Thanks.0
