in Credit cards
Nationwide are attracting new business on their website with an attractive 9 months interest-free shopping at 0%.
The problem is that they are not giving this offer to exhisting account holders.
I have been told today by Nationwide that at the time that I opened my Classic Credit Card account their would have been a different offer.
This is nonsense as I moved my credit card business from the Halifax to Nationwide after a fraudulent transaction occured which the Halifax handled badly.
I put the suggestion to Nationwide that as the Credit card agreement is in my name with an addtional card in my wifes name that I would consider opening and account under my wifes name. They agreed that this would be considered as new business.
I then said that this was ridiculous and that they should offer the 0% to their exhisting and loyal client base but they will not relent.
Has anyone else been in touch with Nationwide about this issue and if so what are your views?

Most offers are carrots to get you to take up new credit cards, the favourite is 0% for a given period for balance transfers. These offers are only open to "new" customers/applicants as part of the credit companies business plan. This applies to all companies.
There would most likely have been an offer when you opened up your Nationwide account , it is just that you didn't know about it. Their previous offer was for 0% on balace transfers, which ended in September, and was replaced by the 0% on puchases plus I believe a low 4.9% on balance transfers for 12 months.
Sometimes there are offers to existing customers, usually by mail which are few and far between. There is a thread on this HEREac's lovechild0 -
An offer "For new customers only" !!!
Surely some mistake here ...Ed..0 -
AFAIAA, you can only change from one card type [eg 'classic'] to a different card type [e.g 'cash rewards'] and not then requalify for the former card type later. However if you close your account they may treat you as a 'new' cutomer after some speicfied period [e.g. 6 months]. Why don't you ask them about this specifically - it's always better to know about these things than speculate on them? [My guess it that they will not have any authority to 'negotiate' any better terms just by calling them up to suggest cancelling the account.].....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0
