Christmas wrapping paper

  • Hi!
I'm wanting to use brown paper too but my tesco doesn't have the £1 roll which is annoying. May end up having to get it from wilkos :(

    *EDIT TO ADD*
My ex decided it would be a fun idea to wrap all the presents in tin foil as all he had to do was put the present in the middle of a sheet and scrunch it all up! He didn't think about how ugly it looked, how it didn't unwrap very well and how it hurt your fingers!!

  • I think the brown paper with rafia/ribbon sounds like it would look lovely!

My grandparents used to very carefully wrap our presents in silver foil & then expect my mom to re-use it on the turkey!!!!!
You cant take a step forward with both feet on the ground
  • A mixture for me. I usually go for plain coloured wrap when I can find it, with coordinating ribbon. Tissue paper, with or without an outer layer of cellophane (ie deep red tissue paper, covered in clear cellophane with silver stars, and silver ribbon). I think I might well use the brown paper + string idea too this year - just found a ball of natural twine and a bag of raffia in my gardening box that should do nicely :D Then I've also got some nice red voile type fabric (reused) which looks FAB.

(oh, and I'm also thinking of possibly knocking up some very basic calico (cheap, rough, cream/natural coloured fabric) bags on the sewing machine and tying with gingham ribbon :)

It's wearing off on people though. My mum and mum in law have started using really pretty ribbons and whatnot, which I then squirrel away. When I was a kid I used to detest my mum's habit of smoothing out and saving nice paper ;)
  • Last year my 3 yr old daughter and I made our own paper for those special presents -

I bought really cheap lining paper from the wallpaper/DIY shop and we potato printed snowmen, penguins and reindeers on it - what a laugh we had....we also made tags to match! It was great fun, passed some time and helped keep her amused on some pretty drab winter days! We got so many compliments on it LOL

Love that idea and so personal!!!

  • Bought all my rolls for this christmas last december just after christmas and all rolls were reduced to 30p each -- did same with tags and cards. Takes a bit of space in the cupboard though !

I was also going to go with the brown paper & pretty curled ribbon but my Tesco don't have the £1 brown paper rolls either  seem to have all the other £1 etc things though.
    The £2.00 Coin Savers Club = approx £22.00  :j.. The 20p Savers Club = £17.80.

  • I saw some nice wrapping paper 3 rolls for £1 in card factory so i'm gonna use that to wrap some presents.

I was also thiking of getting some parcel paper and getting my son to put his hand and footprints all over it and use that to wrap the presents for his dad and grandparents.

I tend to buy loads of wrapping paper in January as it often gets reduced to about 15 - 20p a roll. I get stuff that can be used for Christmas or birthdays so none of it says anything about christmas!

I know that is not much help in the run up to christmas but may be something to consider afterwards.

    Another doing tesco brown paper.

Our tesco had all the £1 stuff on bogof the other day so I got 4 rolls for £2.

I have bought some red gingham ribbon on e bay (might get some green too) and I am going to make some nice gift tags from brown luggage lables.

I have some stickers with our family on in cartoon from vista and they are cute so will stick those on the back of the tags.

Will save me having to write out our 5 names over and over again.

The kids presents from f.c are ONLY ever wrapped in red shiny papaer.

I'm so excited I want to do it all NOW.

Need to get book day costumes made. halloween party done and bonfire night and dd's 1st birthday out of the way before I can sart.
