I may use raffia to tie and make some rustic gift tags.....not that anyone will notice as they rip my handy work to shreads but hey, it will give me pleasure!
  • I Used Brown Parcel Paper Last Year And Tied Tartan/gingham Ribbon Around Them, Then I Tied A Candy Cane And Hm Tag On, Looked Really Effective And Old Fashioned, Everyone Said How Fantastic All The Presents Looked, For The Kids Presents I Found Some Really Old Fashion Traditional Father Xmas Paper Really Looked Like The Elves Had Wrapped Them.x

Last year Tesco's had red and green parcel paper as well as the usual brown stuff and I used all three for my pressies, tied with string. They looked fab. People commented how expensive they looked but it was bog standard parcel paper and string :D

I made up some boxes of gifts last year too and used brown parcel paper shredded for stuffing in the boxes (did at home using own shredder).

I'll be using plain silver (that unfortunatly won't help you as I bought it last year after Xmas at 75% off)

Love Ikea paper, nice and thick, and if they still have the ribbon on large black plastic reels it's amazing, bought gold, silver and bronze a couple of years ago and still got quite a bit left, curls really well, and even though it's thin, it splits really well so you can make really, really fine bows.
  • I should have said in my post that the my 2 children I will be using character paper. I already have 3 10m rolls of disney princess (16p in asda in january) so will just buy some character wrap to wrap my sons in, this will be closer to christmas though when I know if he still likes the same things :rotfl:

  • I love the brown paper thing, but I got a load of rolls of lovely wrap in the sales this year (12p a roll in asda, matching tags 10p for 10) so will be using that up this year.

I get the kids charater wrap (got them simpsons this year cheap again 50p a roll one lot in a blue design and the other in silver) will be using the blue one for the eldest and silver for the youngest, so will not be using tags on them.

For the sharing pressies (as they are both boys and mad on Dr Who) will wrap in the other paper and Tag them.

One idea I have is to get a large box to fill with balloon (Thinking about little water balloons?? not sure yet though??) Wrapping the small Dr Who figures up out of the packaging and filling the box up, sealing it and wrapping it.

  • i will use traditional paper but heard of some people using material and ribbon (its then recycled / reused) voile type material looks lovely because you can put few layers and insert sequins etc!special! x

  • we're using brown paper we got for £1 a roll at Tesco.
I usually spend a day or two with my ds (3 years) painting different designs on the papers, we use handstamps we got from the £1 shop a couple of years ago, but potato printing would work too.

I love the candy cane idea - might use this for the grown up gifts !!
