Ooo ... that's that posh coffee innit? :D

Yeah I notice they're doing the pods now. I buy the Lidl Bellarom ground coffee in the 500g pack. Works out much better value than pods, each to their own I suppose.

Someone says this coffee is manufactured by Kraft (Jacobs brand), one of Europes most popular ground coffees. I assume the pods are made by Kraft too: http://www.politics.ie/forum/economy/43110-did-lidl-aldi-know-going-crash-here-6.html#post1409384

The packaging is not clear as to who makes the pods. £1.49 for 18 pods is 8p a pod, which is very cheap compared to 25p a pod for Tassimo, Nespresso & other brands.

I also find that 18 pods for £1.49 is comparable to the cost of using ground coffee in my espresso machine, with the bonus of less mess to clean up.

I've used the 200g tins of Bellarom Caffe Espresso, & the price per cup is about the same as using pods.
  • Yeah Lidl pods probably work out far cheaper than branded ones. If Kraft make the Bellarom 500g coffee, I 'd assume Kraft make all their ground coffee products. I think they'd source all their ground coffee products from the same supplier.

i dont know if this has already been posted but ive recently discovered that lidl add vat (20%) onto alcohol, coffee and other vat products at the check out. the price on the shelves is not what you pay

I very much doubt that. What you're seeing on the receipt is the VAT breakdown per category for all the goods you've bought. They show you the total price of the goods in each category and the VAT you've paid within the marked price. You don't pay extra, it's already included in the marked price.

I think it would be illegal for any retail store to show ex-VAT prices then add VAT at the till. The only exceptions are cash and carry outlets, warehouse clubs and those catering for business customers only.

Have to say, I'm glad Lidl and Aldi do this. I find it very revealing, because it really shows how much the government is taking each time I shop.
