well i have managed to get the clip converted and onto disc without getting the diagonal lines that i kept getting. oddly when i converted to either avi or wmv the picture was really poor. so i converted to mpeg and it has replicated the same quality of the original. whether it will work on a regular dvd player, who knows? i will try it later.

Which version number would that be? Is it from a feature limited OEM bundle?

Confused, as PD appears to have DVD creation capability.

Either way, you can use the trial of Power Producer to create the DVD Video.

I had a bundle with the laptop when I bought it, it was fine creating a movie but when it came to burning it wouldn't do it, I checked it on other DVD players so knew it wasn't the player. I have now downloaded the trial version of Power Director 7 and have managed to create aplayable DVD. I'm now gonna buy the full thing I think. Thanks for the help
