Broadband Advice required

I currently have NTL cable XL and M tv package that i pay £38 a month for.
I also have a BT landline.

I don't really need the cable TV as freeview give me all i need so i can ditch that.
I have checked my BT line and the fastest i can get is 3MBs.

I am looking for the best Broadband deal using my BT Line.

I am considering the TISCALI or Talk-Talk deal which might be a little more expensive, but with the free international calls would probably work out cheaper all in.

I download a bit of music as well as tv programs so would need an ISP that does not impose a small download limit.
What do you reccommmend?

For broadband cable is the best service. It's always "If you can have cable, go for cable".

I'd simply phone up Virgin Media and tell them you aren't happy with the price and can get a better deal elsewhere. You do need to go through the options to select you want to leave. VM will then offer you a retention deal.

Are the 'free' international calls really worth paying extra for when you can use the likes of Call 18185 and get them from 0.5p/min - depending on country called.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • Don't whatever you do go for Tiscali unless you are fluent in several Asian languages!! I recently spent 3 days and several hours each day trying to get a problem sorted. (too long a story to go into) and apart from the fact that most operators were nearly impossible to understand, they were unable (or couldn't be bothered) to sort the problem. So I asked for a MAC code which I was told would be sent within 5 days by email and letter. Seven days later I received my MAC code by post (Apparently Tiscali don't recognise Saterdays and Sundays!) and I am still waiting for the email. Bye-bye Tiscali and good riddance!!
  • I have not had a good deal from Virgin media if truth be told.
Supposed to get 20mb but the most i have ever achieved is about 6mb. Ran a speed test yesterday and got 2mb.
Rang the VM cancellation dept and said i wanted to cancel as i was getting nowhere near the advertised speed and not getting value for money, they said Fine they will cancel and did not even try and make another offer to retain my business.
  • If i take the O2 offer, will i still have to pay BT line rental?

Yes, you still need to pay the £10.50 BT Line Rental.

  • Virgin Media have offered
    £10 for M
    £17 for L
    and £29 for XL
That is for cable broadband alone.
Does anyone thing i can get better elsewhere.
Due to the proximity to the exchange, i will not get more the than 3mb for ADSL broadband.
