Hi synonymous. Yes, it's something they changed over the last 12 months, I'm afraid. So they don't have to honour your cashback, but it can't hurt to ring up. You never know, they might hounour it anyway as a goodwill gesture, as the minimum changed during the last 12 months.

I'm wondering whether to carry on with this myself. I'm 2 months into my new cashback "year" and have about £8 on it.

Can anyone tell me, if I spend more than £3500, does that mean I get 1% cashback on the lot, or just on my spend over £3500?

If I only get 0.5% on the first £3500, I might just let it lapse and spend on my egg Money card instead.

I believe the 1% is on the additional.
But if you want to check then ring the number on the back of your card.
It's not an expensive number and they have UK call centers and they are quite helpful.
  • Thanks for your response beer tins, I went through all my paperwork and was ready for a stand-off on the phone when I got my statement with the cashback credited :j

I'm gonna ring up shortly (once I've spent the cashback) and see what they will give me for keeping it open a bit longer. With the new household income, I can't sign up for it again so might as well see what I can blag for staying!

  • I was disappointed to learn that my start date was 2 weeks after I actually got the card so that limits the cash back 3 month offer "the Cashback begins from the date the card is established not from the date you receive the card".

    Hi there,

I've had interest on my Argos Cashback Card bill for two months running now. I rang last month and was told it was because of a cash transaction. Cash? I responded. I have never withdrawn cash. I'm very careful not to.

It actually equated to a competition entry which they say (and this makes sense when you think about it) is treated as cash.

However as my card is repaid in full each month I expected that to be the end of it. Oh no! Once again this month it is there. I am told cash is paid last (or should that read never????). I made more purchases with the card (no, really, I did. Incredible isn't it?) so the 'cash' transaction then got rolled back to be paid later - how thoughtful of Argos to do this! (sic).

Answer provided by Argos, pay the balance and don't use the card so it gets cleared off... it seems paying your bill in full each month doesn't do so....

Can a note be made on the Don't withdraw cash section to include a note that also says that cash includes money for competitions, gambling etc for future unwary cashback credit card adopters?

    Cheers
    Steve
  • Can anyone help me- if you buy a product and later return it and get a refund do you still get credited with the cashback on the original amount spent?

i.e. can i go into a shop purchase a £1000 tv safe in the knowledge that a few days later I can return it and benefit from 5% cashback??

No I don't think you can.
The cashback should be deducted unless people know of any specific loopholes, but even then you can't be sure the loophole won't be closed by the time you do your transaction.
If it does work it's a glitch rather than an entitlement.
  • Hi
Somebody I know will be living and working in America for about 5 months this year. If they take any of the british credit card they will get a small fee for every transaction which will build up over the time they are there. So I was wondering if anyone knew about good deals on credit cards for the US? Does the system work the same over there or can you not have 'free' credit cards as you can here if you pay off in full each month via direct debit. Maybe somebody knows of a website similar to the British ones for credit card comparison?
    Thanks!

Easiest option would be to get a cashback card before they go where the cashback % should help cover the fee, or maybe get an Abbey Zero card which has a 0% foreign exchange fee?

I'd be surprised if a UK citizen working in the US would be eligible for a US credit card unless it was arranged by their employer in the US, but not my area of expertise.
