It is possible to get some really good deals from them, but you need to be very careful, because they try to squeeze money out of you on every occasion.

Had a couple of international tickets under a fiver return, and a couple of around 20 pound, including all fees.

Of course only take handluggage, it is well worth buying the max size allowed bag/trolley (I think it is 55 by 40 by 20 cm, but do check the website). You can carry everything you need in that no probs. Liquidwise 100ml is quite a lot -toothpaste tends to be 75mls, and facial cream is often only 50mls). You are actually allowed about 10 of those (plastic bags at airport are much smaller than the 20 by 20 cm bags allowed according to the regs).

V annoying when you've been tripped up by them, try to get some cheapies back!

As long as it's a disposable cartridge razor (ie not a straight razor or uses "proper" razor blades) you can take it.

I use disposable lenses but I'd of thought you could get small bottles of solution or decant it (or if your prescription allows get some disposables just for flying).

Deodorant - buy airside/at destination or get smaller sizes

Surly the time saving alone would make it worth it let alone the cash saving

I booked a return ticket from Gatwick to Shannon in today's "sale". Fare was £0.00 return, with taxes this came to £43. Then you add £20 to have checked-in baggage, £10 (!!!) to pay by DEBIT CARD

Yes you booked a seat but it was a seat that definitely wasn't in the sale!

    Totally agree.

You can buy empty bottles with 100ml content at the big high street chemist for very little, so you can take any liquid from home in smaller bottles.
I always bought razors at destination (costs a lot less than checking a bag in) if/when needed, but was indeed let through with disposables last couple of times.

There are also solid crystal deoderant stones that you use with water, for the really seasoned light traveller. But many brands have mini bottles now.

For facial cleansing I buy those wipe-things. They don't count as liquid.

A small nail clipper can get through too. And I now take plastic picnic cutlery because I like to have a knife on me (hope someone clever designs a proper good quality plastic knife sometime) for sandwiches/fruit etc.

Its a bit sad isn't it, but it has become a bit of a hobby :D

Then you add £20 to have checked-in baggage, £10 (!!!) to pay by DEBIT CARD and if you're not careful, they will automatically add insurance as well. And don't even get me started on "priority boarding". Trouble is, I can't travel hand luggage only even though I'm only going for a weekend because I always pack a razor, contact lense solution, deoderant etc. and can't take these in hand luggage.
If you buy roll on deoderant, buy disposable razor when you arrrive and buy a small bottle to decant lens solution you could save a fortune. My OH always buys disposable razors abroad as his electric one never seems to work right.

Unfortunately Ryanair is one of the few airlines that offers a good selection of departures from Scotland so have used them a lot. Just need to get used to their booking system. Have been caught out a couple of times but if you are careful you can still get a good deal. They don't have a monopoly on rude staff. Travelled long haul with BA once and they were as bad. That crew seemed more interested in themselves rather than serving passengers. and were not polite if you asked for anything. Most charter crews are the same. Think some of them are under pressure to achieve sales so concentrate on that side of thngs.

I have NEVER experienced "rudeness" from any Ryanair staff. They have always been perfectly civil.

I do not wish to be their next best friend, I just expect them to do their job which they have, faultlessly, time after time.

Perhaps it depends on your own expectations/attitude?

Just came back from dropping son off to catch Ryanair to Ciampino. I was surprised to find out he had to pay £20 because he did not tick the checked in luggage online which seemed very expensive to me compared to easy jet. I have been checking Ryanair website and was more surprised to see that the £20 he paid was only one way. He will have a shock when he find he had to pay another £20 when he returns to Luton. I am really mad at him and I do not understand why the fee is almost double if you check in at the airport. I guess, this serves him a lesson. A return ticket that costs £90 which he thought was cheap but when added the extra charges can be quite expensive. When should he do next time to avoid all these extra charges or are they the norm? Thanks

I presume you mean 'WHAT should he do next time?'

    Answer......RTFM.
  • Ryanair are great - READ READ READ the site and its all good, its cheap cheerful and great - I use them 20+ times a year and its all good, things only go wrong when people dont read the rules and try to cheat the system
