Until of course we are all on motorcycles, then watch the road tax/parking charges increase. We are all doomed!!"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act. "

You forgot to add - death !
"Death rates for motorcycling, cycling and walking are much higher, with that for motorcycling being over 46 times greater than that for the car."
(Office of National Statistics.)
I'll pay to park !

We already pay tax on parking spaces where we work. Why shouldn't you be taxed on something that's a benefit?0

Nope, a number of city councils are now removing free parking for two wheelers.0 -
Motorised unicycles are the answer.
It looks like just another tax to me. Thinly disguised as being a green tax, as is the latest trend.
Has it ever occured to the council that it's another disincentive to run a business? This country seems to be making enterprise less and less attractive.
Administration costs. If ministers ratfiy the scheme, all businesses with company parking in Nottingham will have to apply for a licence whether they qualify for the charge or not. Enforcement is likely to come from CCTV cameras, spot checks and number plate registration systems.
Grounds for creative thinking there - new employees can have their car declared a delivery vehicle etc.Exemptions are expected for disabled parking, motorcycles, display vehicles on a forecourt, deliveries and fleet or pool vehicles not used for commuting.
Yes, so they want money. The council said it will put the money raised towards extending Nottingham's tram system, improving bus services and redeveloping its railway station.
Noone drives in heavy congestion for fun.Jon Collins, the council leader, said: "Forecasts tell us that car use is set to increase, congestion levels will get much worse and, ultimately, over the next 20 years, oil production is going to peak. Any city that does not plan to meet these challenges is not planning ahead for sustainable growth. Future generations will thank us."Happy chappy0 -
The opening paragraph of the article isGordon brown won't be satisfied until we have less than £1 a week to spend on luxuries in our wallets
"Nottingham City Council aims to become the first authority to introduce the Workplace Parking Levy (WPL), with at least eight other councils ready to follow its lead.".....0 -
the scheme faces fierce resistance from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and Chamber of Commerce, which warned that if Nottingham gets the go ahead from the Department of Transport, it will give the green light to every council in the country to charge workers.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/7396478.stmThe scheme will now be studied by the government before any final go-ahead is granted.

They sayOur analysis indicates that a WPL would not have a significant impact on business investment decisions but overall would bring positive economic benefits to business.
Yes, people who go to work.WPL is targeted at commuters – Nottingham’s main cause of congestion.
What about commuters with children? The city council said the workplace parking levy would actually target commuters, not shoppers, tourists, pensioners and people with children.
http://www.theaa.com/public_affairs/reports/workplace-parking-levies.htmlWhere it all started
The Transport Act 2000 paved the way for local authority congestion charging or workplace parking schemes.
http://www.dncc.co.uk/your-chamber/1674/nottingham-workplace-parking-levy-campaign
Oh dear!Ruth Kelly, The Secretary of State for Transport has now received the Order and is expected to make a decision before the end of the year.Happy chappy0 -
Surely this parking tax would make it uneconomical for employers with over 10 car driving employees to stay in the boundaries of Nottingham city council? And if this idea is considered by our masters to be a success, then it will be rolled out across England?"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act. "

i posted about this in another thread a few months ago, they actually levy the chage against the companies who have no option really but to pass it on ,consider boots one of the biggest employers in nottingham employing 7500 people, this will cost boots in the region of 3 million pounds a year eventually, and that is why they have said they would consider moving if it is implementedHi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
