i recently complained about some new york bakery chocolate croissants which had a very chemically taste and made my daughter sick. they took my complaint very seriously indeed and kept me informed about all aspects of investigation undertaken. i was absolutely amazed at the level of care given and was pleasantly surprised at just how thorough they were. that in itself would have been enough - to have been taken seriously but they sent me vouchers worth £6 and i will be hapy to give them another go.

I had a jacket potatoe from Tesco a few months back - it was mouldy inside.

I sent my complaint direct to Terry Leahy's e-mail address.

I got a refund and I think it was £10 compensation.

  • A while ago someone posted the email address of the boss and I used that to complain twice and got results almost straight away.

I can't find it in my sent items but it was to Sir Terry Leahy if you do a search you might get it from the forum

  • I've had a couple of mouldy products from tesco & all i got was my money back. I did email their customer service once & they were rubbish.

Last year i found a thick elastic cord inside 2 sausage rolls from icelands.
We sent it back like they asked, they sent it on to the manufacturers.
They finally wrote to use with a really lame excuse & i think a £4 chque.

They said it was grizzle from the meat that hadn't been chopped properly, which is a load of rubbish. We took a photo of it.... not sure if you can view it or not
It is clearly not grizzle from meat, it was an elastic cord.

I wasn't after money, i wanted them to be straight with me & not lie to me.
A simple 'Sorry' we don't know how it got there or we've investigated & we found out how it got there was what i was expecting. Not its grizzle & the knives needed to be sharper

  • If you do find something in your food that you don't/wouldn't expect to find normally, then instead of going back to the retailer with it, contact your local authority's Environmental Health department and ask to speak to someone in the Food Safety Section.

The kind of information you'll need is proof of purchase, the packaging that the food came in and any codes (Use By/Best Before, Factory Production Codes etc), did you have anyone with you at the time (corroboration)

Someone in the Food Safety section will investigate the claim on your behalf and should get back to you with an explanation as to what happened, if there is a reasonable explanation. In most instances, the retailer will write to the complainant to "apologise" for the incident
  • Sounds dubious brown / black furry thing turns out to be cardboard? Do you have a copy of the original letter? Did you mention mold? Have they mentioned the word 'mould' or 'growth' in the response? Sounds like this has been well and truly deflected away from the original artifact.

I would be inclined to ask how cardboard makes you ill and what tests they performed on it as surely they are keen to provide the highest quality assurance.

Hi have copies of everything!! TBH the black/brown furry thing was just that, could not identify it other than that description and it was embedded in the cold meat. It did not look like mould! They only 'think' it is cardboard, so am guessing they really have no clue.

Anyway after emailing Terry Leahy I got an instant response and a giftcard in the post for £15. The giftcard is very welcome but at least i now feel they were treating the whole thing seriously.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. :T :T :j :j :j
