Foreign body in Tesco cold meat-UPDATE!

Just received a report back from Tesco re pack of value ham which I purchased in Tesco Cumbernauld. It had really gross furry brown/black object in it part way through the pack, both my son and I ingested some of the meat in toasties and only when we were going back to make more did we notice it!!!! It was absolutely disgusting and both my son and I had a really upset stomach a few hours after we ate it.
Took it back to Tesco explained what had happened and they said they would send it off and get back to me.
Got letter just now which explains that it was cardboard...........................yuck!!! Now I kinda thought they would have stuck a giftcard in with letter as patently the cardboard should not have been there, but nowt, nada, nuffing!!! Phoned them to speak to the person who sent letter and was told no phones in that dept
So any advice as to what to do now???? Forget it?? Ask for vouchers???

I think I'd be tempted to email them to say that you'd received the reply detailing the result of the investigation, but hadn't had any correspondence regarding your complaint, ie.that you were ill. See what that does.0

Did they not give you the money back for the ham?
If not, I'd def email/ring them again and maybe they'll then give you something extra;)0 -
Personally i'd be surprised if the tests found that ham contained meat!
Value Meat OMG!!!
Not even fit for a dog!!!!!!
P.S. foreign body found in meat............GRRRR ........ these bloody foreigners get everywhere!0 -

think your self lucky the cardboard was probably worth more than the value ham!
but seriously, write to them thanking them for the investigation, but would it be possible to be compensated for the ham and the worry. no harm in trying!0 -
I had a bad experience a couple of times with faulty food at tesco, and if u do not persue the matter u do not get anything from them,,, not even an apology.
I had moldy biscuits once and the reply was oh.. i will give u ur money back .. no compensation nothing...0 -
I complained to Tesco after i purchased what i though was casserole lamb chunks and was in actual fat bone and fat. They asked why i hadn't taken it back to my local store - 2 reasons, 1. i had cooked it, 2. its over 7 miles away. They sent me a card with the value of the meat and sod all else. I rang customer servs and they said in a matter of fact tone what did i expect i got my money back so i werent out of pocket. Wont be shopping there again.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

I too am disgusted with Tesco customer service. They really just don't care. I bought a whole cooked chicken - unfortunately however, it wasn't cooked and the cavity of the chicken was full of blood, as well as the meat nearer the bone being pink. I took it back and complained - the staff in store were disgusted and couldn't believe it. They sent it back to the main customer service dept who replied with a very 'cut and paste' letter headed 'alleged under cooked chicken'. I was appalled - there was no 'alleged' about it and the staff in store could testify to this. They sent a £5 gift card which I promptly sent back. I gave up in the end - they have no scruples and don't really want their customer's goodwill - they know they have the monopoly, for now.
I have worked in customer service myself and was really shocked at their attitude. Eventually, I hope this uninterested attitude comes back to bite them! :mad:0 -
i think the problem is we all want / make something out of nothing these days.
I see no problem with them just giving your money back really... if they just gave away stuff left right and centre they'd be bust, lets remember, they are a business, not a charity... and mistakes do happen with products, including food, normally caused by human error, humans not that dis-similar to yourselves.
I dont really know what you expect them to do, they cannot turn back time... and a gift voucher doesnt really repair the problem either... so i dont see why anyone would want one.
Its just life, we used to accept it.0 -

Well there we will have to difffer I don't think complaining about a foreign body in my food is making something out of nothing. It gave Tesco the opportunity to investigate the batches produced and find out if any others were contaminated in this way. Thus they could be spared a rather expensive recall. Potentially, contaminated food can be a killer looks at the E Coli outbreak in Wishaw a few years ago.
Perhaps I am wrong to expect that having done them a service they would do likewise.Luckily I and my son were only ill for a day.The victims we know so well
