I ordered a pay monthly phone online at the Carphone Warehuose website. Just got this email from them:
Thank you for ordering with Carphone Warehouse Online.
Unfortunately we have been unable to process your order because of some security issues. This could be as a result of a number of reasons ranging from excessive use of your card to a deviation from the usual trend.
What happens now?
Wait for a period of seven days after which you can either place a fresh order, or call 0808 100 9250 between the hours of 08:00 to 20:00 Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00 Saturdays and 10:00 to 17:00 Sundays, where a trained advisor will be happy to assist you and continue the order.
Please note that this is just a precaution to prevent any unauthorised use of your card. Accept our apologies for any inconveniences caused.

They are probably hinting that they think you are a crook, but are aiming to avoid the litigation and compensation which could result if they said it straight out!
Ring them up and ask them what the problem is. (And hunt for other threads where people have had a similar problem with CPW.)0 -

I don't really see that. If they thought that they'd presumably just decline. I did ring them up and was told it was a problem with my card and that either my card issuer isn't letting the transaction through or CPW has blocked my card temporarily for some reason (such as the postcodes not matching exactly or something). I asked what I should do and the man said to phone back with a different credit or debit card and then it would likely go through. He said it could be because I ordered a different phone through CPW a week ago on o2, using the same card, but that I didn't proceed wtih that order because they asked for a £150 deposit.0 -
Back in March I got the same thing, bought a PAYG phone, then a few hours later I odered a Virgin mobile sim only, I then got an email similar to yours cancelling my order, I called CPW and they said their systems don't like the same card being used twice in a short period of time, he took my details again and processed the order over the phone.

It is probably because of that then!0 -
I had this before when using my Nationwide credit card. When I phoned up to ask why, they said that there had been a significant amount of fraud using Mobile Phone retailers and therefore they prompt you to phone to check that it is definitely you (and I needed to as they had locked it).
